Thinking about doing exchange overseas? Have you thought about taking along some much needed medical supplies?

LINCS, Local + International Needs Contribution Scheme, is a non-profit organisation run by Interhealth, the Global Health Group of WAMSS. The LINCS initiative aims to improve the standard of healthcare in poorly resourced hospitals in majority world nations and low resource settings. We do this by raising funds and procuring donations of medical supplies/equipment that are unused or reusable, and will benefit disadvantaged communities. The medical supplies are then either transported rurally or overseas to developing countries/communities by students who are heading there on their electives or exchanges.

We strongly encourage all ND medical students going on exchange to poorly resourced countries to get involved with LINCS this year. It's as simple as taking medical supplies in your luggage - something so small that your host country will appreciate so much!

Please contact us on lincs@wamss.org.auto get involved/ask more questions! We'd love to hear from you all!

Feeling disgusted about the situation happening on Manus Island? You can do something about it!

Feeling disgusted about the situation happening on Manus Island? You can do something about it!

By closing down Manus Island detention centre with 816 refugees inside, Australia is trying to wash their hands of the responsibility, even when Julie Bishop, the acting Prime Minister, gave PNG millions of dollars to look after these refugees.....

By doing this to human beings, we are breaking our human rights obligations as a signatory to the:

1951 Refugee Convention
International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights
Universal Declaration of Human Rights

And don't even get us started on Nauru and how 47 children are still imprisoned there, which is a violation of the Conventions of the Rights of a Child as well.

So please, call your MP. They are getting thousands of calls, but are yet to do anything. We need to keep the momentum going for these poor people. It is our responsibility.

-- Obstetrics in FOCUS --

Welcome to the 3rd instalment of "FOCUS", Vision's blog & book club! This week we'll be focusing on maternal health.

Every six minutes, approximately three women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Almost all of these deaths (99%) occur in developing countries, and are considered preventable.

From antenatal care through to post-partum we have compiled the internet’s most interesting resources, to educate and inspire you to take action on maternal health.

Head over to our blog to check it out!
https://visionghg.wordpress.com/focus/

Also, don't forget to come along to our Book Club this Thursday, where we'll be discussing the resources on our blog over a glass of vino!
