If you have a scar you’re unhappy with and would like to participate in a clinical trial, please contact the team at the Fiona Wood Foundation. The cream they’ve developed looks very promising.

This is your chance to help – we are seeking participants in the Perth metro area who have a visible scar (it doesn’t have to be a burn scar), to participate in a trial to reduce scarring. More information is posted below ⤵️

You can also help us by sharing or tagging our post – let’s get this post out there!

Adhesions following abdominal surgery can be debilitating but new preventative measures are being developed!

Up to 90% of patients who undergo open abdominal or pelvic surgery develop postoperative adhesions, or scar tissue. Minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical approaches can reduce the severity of the adhesions, but the scar tissue still forms. The cellular response to injury—even intentional injury...

The shock of a cancer diagnosis can hit hard. Your thrown into a whirlwind of numerous appointments with doctors and specialists whilst trying to understand what will be happening over the next few weeks/months. It is an emotional rollercoaster and can be very exhausting. It is important to take a breath and consider what you need to get you through. This is the first step in cancer rehab. Taking control of at least one aspect in your life and holding onto that control is important. Everyone is different, and our needs and priorities are very personal. Engaging in something that is important to you, whether it be exercise, art, meditation, lunch with friends or whatever, can help keep you grounded through the process and empower you to make it through the tough times whilst still enjoying life inbetween. Cancer rehab starts at diagnosis, and continues through whilst you receive various surgeries and/or treatment. After your treatments have finished, we’re still here for you, to help get your life back on track. Helen is an accredited Pinc and Steel cancer rehabilitation therapist and is more than happy to help you navigate this process.

Our Story

Injury, surgery and disease can generate different forms of pain which can greatly reduce quality of life, creating long term restrictions in movement and function. Pain and scarring are reciprocal entities: pain can reduce your healing potential, encouraging thick, stiff and tight scars and scars can contribute to persistent pain. Optimising your outcome following surgery, injury or disease is based on minimising scar formation (both in and under the skin) and encouraging the formation of functional new tissue. Perth Scar and pain clinic provides both prevention and treatment of tight, restrictive scars, chronic pain and aches or niggles which limit your ability to engage in meaningful activities.
