The placenta.
An organ grown from love.
Formed in the same moment life begins, the placenta is the sacred bridge between mother and baby.
It is not an “afterbirth.” It is the lifeline.
For months it works quietly and faithfully.
Filtering nutrients.
Carrying oxygen.
Removing waste.
Producing hormones that sustain pregnancy.
Holding the baby in a rhythm of safety and connection.
It is the only organ we grow specifically for another.
The placenta is intelligent. Responsive. Purposeful.
It adapts to baby’s needs. It adjusts blood flow. It communicates with the mother’s body in ways science is still uncovering.
And then, when its work is complete, it is born too.
Across cultures, the placenta has been buried, honoured, planted beneath trees, returned to the earth with reverence. Not out of superstition - but recognition.
It sustained life.
