Do you have Dry Eye? If your eyes get gritty, watery, red, “filmy” or burn especially in front of screens or later in the day, you may have evaporative dry eye disease. Many people with Dry Eye Disease, rely on eye drops many times throughout the day or sometimes they just “put up” with the symptoms. We could help. A thorough assessment might reveal that new treatments would be helpful. Contact us at Eyecare Plus for your assessment.

Watching this might make some people cringe- but trust us - it’s not that bad. Plus, it gives you freedom from spectacles for sport, going out and other things (don’t forget school formals!)

Small businesses need your support. Always.

Small businesses need your support. Always.

I’m going to be really honest today. I’m not looking for sympathy I’m looking for change.

I’m angry. I’m sad. And I’m trying to hold it together behind the counter while seeing faces we’ve known for 10 years walk through the door. I’m sorry I did not have the strength to talk to most of you.

This was never about lack of support.
You showed up. You always did. You stood in queues, you brought your friends, you celebrated your birthdays with us, you made us part of your life for a decade. That was never the problem.

The problem is trying to exist in an economy where people can barely afford to treat themselves anymore. Where every single cost goes up — ingredients, rent, electricity, fuel levies, packaging, wages — and somehow small businesses are just expected to absorb it quietly, smile, and keep going.

“Just put your prices up.”
“Just adapt.”
“Just work harder.”

Someone said it was our own fault for not changing our recipes! We are working harder. We are doing everything we can. We sold donuts in Bunnings Car Parks during Covid, we know how to adapt. And still… it’s not enough.

And the hardest part?
Standing here, smiling, making coffee, handing over your pastries, saying “have a great day” — while inside you’re carrying the weight of staff, rent and bills… and the very real fear of losing something you’ve built your life around.

We are trained to say we’re fine.
We’re often not.

So please — and I mean this with everything in me —
go and support your local small businesses if you can.

Check on the owners. Actually check on them.
Ask them how they’re really doing.

Because behind every “we’re good!” is often someone who hasn’t slept properly in weeks.

Fight for the little places. The corner shops. The bakeries, the cafés, the florists, the tiny stores that make your suburb feel like a community instead of just a postcode.

They are disappearing. And it’s not because people don’t care.

It’s because the system makes it almost impossible to survive.

We’re here today.
We’re baking as long as we can.

Come by, say hi, give your favourite spots a bit of love — not just us, all of them.

Because once they’re gone…they’re gone.

How important are fruits and vegetables for Macula? “All adults should be aiming for a rainbow of fruits and vegetables as part of their habitual diet to ensure that they’re getting an adequate amount of nutrients to maintain optimal macular health”, Professor Gopinath.

Just a reminder that we’ll be closed from Friday till Monday for Easter but we still have plenty of appointments over the school holidays. Since none of us can afford the fuel to travel away, why not bring the kids in for their bulk-billed eye checks?

Eyecare for Everyone

Anita Salter is one of the lucky people who knew what she wanted to do “when she grew up” from a fairly early age. Having been a Queen’s Scout, helping people was already in her nature. When some family members started having trouble with their vision, she found the idea of optometry fascinating. Grade 10 work experience confirmed it (and a second round of work experience in an accountancy office certainly helped to rule that one out). Luckily, she was always pretty comfortable with maths and science and after achieving good results at school, she was accepted into QUT, the only Queensland university offering optometry.

After graduating in 1994, she moved to Townsville to work at Stacey and Stacey Optometrists and after 3 years, moved back to the south east corner where she met Pat. Following that there was a stint in Gympie, Maryborough, back to Townsville, out to Charters Towers and then down to Toowoomba. When the opportunity arose to purchase one of the Gatton optometry practices, she took it and has been there ever since. She celebrated 10 years in the practice in 2017. She and her family have called the Lockyer Valley home for all of that time and have loved meeting other Lockyer families and supporting other local businesses.

Eyecare Plus Gatton has been lucky to show great growth over the last ten years and hopes to continue the trend into the future. If you haven’t been in to meet Anita and the team, you should definitely make the time. New patients are always welcome but an appointment is recommended because it can get very busy. If you would like to know more, give them a call on 5462 3222 or hit the “Book Now” button on the Eyecare Plus Gatton page.
