Pineapples don’t grow spikes by accident.
That outer layer is protective design. It keeps the inside safe while it develops.
Humans aren’t that different.
Sometimes we are “spiky” — big feelings, sharp words, quick shutdowns, avoidance. But those responses are usually nervous system protection, not personality.
When something feels overwhelming, the brain shifts into protect mode. It’s adaptive. It makes sense.
Our work isn’t about forcing the spikes away. It’s about helping the nervous system feel safe enough that they don’t need to be so sharp.
Because underneath protection, there’s always capacity.
And often… a whole lot of sweetness. 🍍💛
