Recently a friend of mine was not in a good place. He felt that he had wasted his life and recent health issues had not made things easier for him. A stint in hospital found the problem and a course of action was devised. However, that dealt with the physical but not the mental aspects that he was struggling with. During our discussions it became apparent that he was focusing on his past & what had contributed to his current situation. I explained that he could not change that but what he could focus on was what was to come & that he had options. It was up to him to choose whether he wanted to wallow or move forward with his life.
To his credit he has chosen to move forward but that doesn't mean that he won't have setbacks & he has but he is still moving forward.
He has thanked me for being blunt & more importantly honest with him rather than enabling his misery.
