I am so proud of my son - James Cavanagh. He was selected as one of two Australian presenters to attend a world conference around inclusion.

Those who know me will understand that his work is so very connected to my work, but he has surpassed me in so many ways.

It’s not a paid event, rather an honour and an opportunity to excel in the field.

If anyone can see their way to support James Cavanagh I would be very grateful. Not for us but for all the young people that may be supported by change.

Congratulations to Tabitha Porter who has completed her Internship and is now a fully registered psychologist. Fabulous news after an excellent 12months of work. Tabitha is now planning to add Sport Psychology to her list of special interests. We look forward to the next chapter!

Action Psychology SA are proud to announce that Leah McCann and Joanna Turek have successfully completed their internship and are now Registered Psychologists. As their Primary Supervisor I am so
proud of them both. Jo’s time at Action was limited but she will always remain part of the ‘team’ in spirit and who knows, she may be back!

Leah has a strong presence in the practice and I thank her for the excellent and ongoing support of colleagues and clients. Looking forward to seeing where you take you career.

Worth a read

Chronic dysregulation is the cause of impulsive behavior. The immediate (autopilot) reaction is an attempt to not feel uncomfortable or painful emotions. Later, there’s even more shame when (of course) those feelings come back the surface again. Even though we’ve tried to eat, shop, drink, or s*x them away. This is why trauma healing involves awareness as the first step. So many people aren’t even aware of their triggers and coping mechanisms. Next, comes self compassion. “I do this because I’m feeling unsafe.” After self compassion is empowerment “I am an adult who can make new choices. Then begins the practice. The practice of setting boundaries with ourselves and practicing different ways to self soothe. It’s like learning to walk again, emotionally
