💙Introducing our Tube Feeding Team. 💜

At Complete Dietetics, supporting tube-fed clients is one of our core areas of expertise – and it’s a space where we see many families and support coordinators left without the help they truly need.

Expert Support for Tube-Fed Participants - How we can help:

🤝Bridging the Gaps in Care
Many families tell us they feel “on their own” once they leave hospital – overwhelmed by equipment, uncertain about nutrition, and unsure who to ask for help. Our team works to bridge that gap, supporting not just the participant, but the entire care team.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Whole Care Team Support
We don’t just write feeding plans – we embed ourselves within the participant’s care team, working closely with:
- Support coordinators
- Families and carers
- Allied health professionals
- Medical specialists and GPs
- Nursing services (e.g. continence and community nurses)
- Support workers and SIL providers

Our goal is to ensure nutrition care is consistent, safe, and sustainable, across all settings – home, respite, or supported living.

✅We currently have capacity for new participants and welcome the opportunity to support individuals with complex nutritional needs.

If you’d like to discuss a referral or learn more about how we can support your participants, please feel free to get in touch (03) 4219 2199 or to make a referral, simply visit our website: https://www.completedietetics.com.au/

🥄Recipe of the Month 🤩

PB&J chia yoghurt pots 🍓🥜—a cozy, prep-ahead breakfast we’re a little obsessed with. Creamy yoghurt, sweet strawberries and that classic peanut butter goodness = comfort in a jar.

Our dietitian Darcy is obsessed with this one for an easy, balanced breakfast. The peanuts (hello peanut butter 🥜) bring satisfying plant-based protein and healthy fats to help keep you fuller for longer, while chia seeds add fibre and omega-3s to support gut and heart health.

We love using single yoghurt pots because they’re so easy to prep and perfect for busy mornings when you just need to grab and go. Plus, Activia contains probiotics with up to 100x greater survivability against stomach acid compared to regular yoghurt cultures—helping more reach your gut alive. Happy gut, happy mornings 💛^

🧠 Myth vs Fact: Kids’ Eating Habits

❌ “Picky eating is always just a phase.”
✅ While some selectivity is normal, extreme food avoidance, stress at meals, or very limited variety may need extra guidance.

❌ “Screens make kids eat better.”
✅ Screens can interfere with hunger cues and reduce food exploration.

Understanding what’s typical — and what’s not — helps create calmer, happier meal times 🍽

💛 If you’re unsure whether your child’s eating habits are typical, our latest blog explains the signs to look out for and when extra support may help.

📚 Back to School & Healthy Eating Habits

As the school year begins, setting up calm and confident eating habits at home helps your child thrive in the classroom and beyond. While picky eating is common, some eating patterns may benefit from extra support — especially when they affect nutrition, energy and daily life.

🔹 Encourage balanced lunches: Include familiar foods alongside colourful fruits, veggies, proteins and whole grains to help fuel learning and concentration.
🔹 Keep lunches realistic: Healthy doesn’t need to be perfect. Simple options like sandwiches, wraps, cut-up veg, fruit, yoghurt or leftovers are all great choices.
🔹 Build positive routines: Screen-free family meals help children tune into hunger and fullness — a skill that supports healthy eating at school and home.
🔹 Be patient with food variety: Some kids need many exposures before accepting new foods — keep offering without pressure.

📱 Screens at the dinner table can quietly impact how children eat.

When kids are distracted by screens, they may miss important hunger and fullness cues, be less curious about food, and lose out on valuable family mealtime connection.

The good news?
👍🏻Even small changes — like one screen-free meal a day — can help build healthier eating habits over time.

Back-to-school reminder for parents of picky eaters 💛

A lunch your child will actually eat is often more nourishing than a lunch that looks “balanced” but comes home untouched.

Nutrition doesn’t happen in a single school day. It happens over time—across days and weeks. When kids have enough fuel during the school day, it supports learning, energy, mood, and emotional regulation. And research shows that reducing pressure around food helps kids feel safer, eat enough, and build trust in their bodies.

For picky eaters, progress looks like:
🧩 Relying on familiar foods
🧩 Getting enough to eat
🧩 Letting variety grow slowly—when pressure is low

One repetitive lunch does not mean poor nutrition, a fed child is a supported child. Back-to-school lunches can bring up a lot of worry—but you’re not doing it wrong by choosing what works right now ✨ A lunch they eat is always a win✨

👉 If you’re concerned about your child’s nutrition or picky eating, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

It’s incredibly common for parents to find themselves wondering:

❓“Is this just a phase?”
❓“Am I doing something wrong?”
❓“Should I be concerned?”

These questions often arise when mealtimes become stressful, when food refusal feels constant, or when worry about nutrition starts to overshadow what should be a moment of connection. While many eating behaviours are a normal part of childhood development, some patterns can benefit from extra support.

Understanding what’s typical, and recognising when eating challenges may need a closer look, can help families move away from anxiety and toward calmer, more confident and nourishing mealtimes. Below are five key areas to watch for when assessing your child’s eating habits, along with guidance on when support may be helpful.
