📜 Honouring the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) 🤝

Today, December 10th, marks Human Rights Day, commemorating the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948. This groundbreaking document sets out the fundamental rights and freedoms that every single person, regardless of race, background, or status, is entitled to.

Why does this matter to us in Allied Health?

At the core of the UDHR is Article 25, which states: "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care..."

This means that the work we do every day, whether it's providing hands-on treatment, advocating for NDIS funding, or ensuring accessible care pathways, is a practical demonstration of these fundamental human rights.

Let's continue to advocate for a world where these rights are a reality for all!

Happy International Volunteer Day! 🤝

Today, December 5th, we pause to celebrate the incredible difference volunteers make in shaping stronger, healthier communities, right here in Geelong and across the coast.

From the parents managing the local footy club, to the dedicated seniors running community groups, and the friends offering transport to appointments: volunteers are the backbone of active, thriving lives.

In allied health, we see firsthand how volunteer efforts enable people to move, connect, and thrive. Every hour of time given is an hour that builds resilience, support, and health for someone else.

🎡 Heading to the Geelong Show 2025? Move Better, Feel Better! 🐄
Get ready for the fun, the rides, and the huge amount of walking! We're excited the Geelong Show is running from 16th to the 19th of October: it's a massive community event that gets everyone moo-ving.

As your local allied health team we know how much strain a long day on your feet can put on your back, knees, and hips. That's why we want to make sure you can show up and enjoy every minute!

Our Survival Tips for the Show:
1️⃣ Comfort is King: Choose supportive footwear, even if it feels bulky. Your feet and back will thank you after 10,000 steps on concrete!
2️⃣ Take a Load Off: Use the quiet times (like waiting in line) to gently stretch your calves and hamstrings, or find a seat to give your joints a break.
3️⃣ Stay Hydrated: Just like a great physical therapy session, staying well-hydrated is key to keeping muscles flexible and reducing fatigue.

We're celebrating the simplest, healthiest, and most invigorating way to start your day: commuting by bike! You may have seen a number of our practitioners out on their bikes! 👀

Riding to work is a fantastic way to:

1️⃣ Move Better: Maintain joint health, build strength, and get that essential dose of low-impact cardio.
2️⃣ Boost Mood: Kickstart your brain with endorphins and arrive feeling focused and ready to go.
3️⃣ Prevent Pain: Incorporating daily activity is key to managing the stress of sitting and preventing common back, neck, and hip issues.

Clinic Tip for Riders 💡
If you're planning a longer ride, make sure your bike fit is spot on! A quick adjustment to your saddle height or handlebar reach can prevent those nagging pains in your knees, back, and wrists. If you need a tune-up for your body or your bike posture, book in to see our team!
