☄️ Introducing COMET

Our Collaborative Obstetric and Midwifery Education Trial.

☄️ Berth Geelong is thrilled to partner with ACU to launch an Australian-first trial researching our unique collaborative childbirth education model.

☄️ Existing literature consistently highlights the importance of providing reliable and evidence-based information to women and partners.

☄️A collaborative obstetrician-midwifery model of childbirth education represents an innovative approach. There is no current scientific literature exploring this unique model of childbirth education.

☄️ The aim of this study is to evaluate whether a collaboratively delivered obstetrician-midwifery childbirth education program meets the informational and emotional needs of prospective parents.

☄️ Women and partners attending childbirth education at Berth Geelong are invited to participate in the research, which involves surveys before and after classes, as well as following birth. Participation is anonymous and entirely voluntary.

☄️ Findings from this study may help inform the future design of evidence-based, empowering, multidisciplinary childbirth education programs in Australia.

▫️The flu vaccine is recommended at any stage of your pregnancy journey and is available free of charge at Berth Geelong

▫️The flu vaccine can be safely administered as either a stand alone vaccine or alongside your pertussis and RSV vaccine appointments at Berth.

▫️ The flu vaccine protects women from severe disease during pregnancy and also offers protection to newborns in the first six months of life.

▫️The flu vaccine is safe and recommended during any trimester of pregnancy and is administered by one of our experienced Berth midwives Charlotte, Kate or Rosie.

Introducing Dr Sophie Brough

Sophie grew up in Geelong and studied a Bachelor of Science with an Honours in health equity and diabetes, through the University of Melbourne. She then studied her medical degree at Deakin University locally and in Ballarat, and spent three years working at Barwon Health. Sophie has experience across lots of medical fields, including working in rural emergency medicine in Warrnambool and Hamilton, as well as in obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics. Sophie completed her General Practice training in Geelong and earned her Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2024.

Sophie loves to help her patients throughout all stages of life, and particularly enjoys women’s health and paediatrics, especially since becoming a mum herself. Sophie enjoys all aspects of family planning, perinatal health and contraception care including IUDs and Implanon.

Sophie is passionate about and has lots of experience in IUD insertion, and is accredited through Sexual Health Victoria. She has also pursued further study in paediatrics, completing the Sydney Child Health Program in 2020.

Outside of being a GP, you can find Sophie pottering in her garden, and wrangling her two beautiful little kids and husband on their busy sheep and cropping farm in the Western District.

September 2026 Berth Groups Now Open! 🌿

We’re thrilled to announce that bookings are now open for our September 2026 Berth Group Antenatal Education Program!

With spots filling quickly in earlier groups, this is the perfect opportunity for patients due in September to secure your place.

Our program includes seven antenatal catchups led by a team of experienced professionals, covering topics like nutrition, exercise, baby and infant first aid, breastfeeding, sleep, and perinatal mental health. It’s a beautiful way to prepare for your baby’s arrival while connecting with other expectant parents, creating your village, and building a supportive community.

✨ The Fourth Trimester ✨

We loved seeing some of our gorgeous January Berth group mums and babies spending time together this week, alongside midwife Charlotte and lactation consultant Sarah.

We are thrilled to hear how often this group has caught up to support each other through all the joys and challenges of postpartum life.

After sharing their antenatal journey together, our January group enjoys regular weekly cafe catch ups in Geelong and on the coast with their babies.

We love seeing the value of the 'village' for support and belonging in the postpartum period.

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Anna to the team at Berth Geelong.

Anna brings a wealth of experience to Berth as a clinical gynae nurse consultant with 23 years experience and leadership in women's health.

Anna is a passionate advocate of women's health and has clinical expertise across a broad range of clinical areas, including supporting women with continence, pelvic floor health, endometriosis and pelvic pain.

In addition to various roles in public and private healthcare, Anna has many years of experience helping women across rural and remote Australia in her role as a clinical nurse and midwife with the Royal Flying Doctors service.

Anna joins our team of specialist gynaecologists and women's health GPs at Berth, who together provide comprehensive, individualised and holistic care across all aspects and life stages of a women's health care journey.
