Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month 🩵

This month is about starting conversations, raising awareness, and encouraging early action. Around 1,900 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year in Australia, and in many cases, it’s found at a later stage when treatment is more difficult.

Recognising the early signs can make all the difference. Symptoms may include:
• Persistent bloating or abdominal pain
• Feeling full quickly or loss of appetite
• Unexplained fatigue or weight changes
• Changes to bowel or bladder habits

These symptoms can be caused by many things, but if they’re unusual for you, persistent, or troublesome, it’s important to speak with your GP.

Getting ready to travel abroad? Your first stop should be the GP.

Before take-off, book a Travel Medicine Consultation to make sure you're set for a safe and healthy trip. Our GPs can help with pre-travel health checks, recommended vaccinations, advice tailored to your destination, and a plan for managing any health issues that may come up while you're away or after you return.

We’re also a registered Yellow Fever vaccination provider.

✈️ Let our reception team know you’re booking a travel consult so we can allocate enough time and remember to bring your passport to your appointment - 📞(03) 5202 9333

🚨 We want to inform our patients about a current scam affecting medical practices across Australia.

Some patients are receiving text messages that appear to be from HotDoc, asking them to log in to process a Medicare rebate. These messages are not legitimate.

Please note:
👉 Kardinia Health will never ask you to log in via a text message to process Medicare rebates
👉 We will never request personal, Medicare, or banking details via SMS
👉 If you receive a message like this, do not click the link

At this stage, we haven’t had any reports from our patients, but we want to be proactive and keep our community informed.

If you’re ever unsure about a message claiming to be from HotDoc or us, please contact our reception team directly. We’re always happy to check for you.

Your privacy and safety are important to us 💙

Cervical Cancer Awareness Month | January 🩵

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, and with early detection, it is highly treatable.

The best way to protect yourself is with regular Cervical Screening Tests, which check for HPV (Human Papillomavirus), the virus responsible for most cervical cancers.

If you're a woman aged 25 to 74 and have ever been sexually active, it's recommended you have a Cervical Screening Test every five years, even if you've had the HPV vaccine.

You now have more options for how your test is conducted: either by a trained GP or nurse, or by collecting your own sample with a simple swab, making it easier to prioritise your cervical health.

💬 Read our latest blog to learn more about the importance of cervical screening and how we can support you:

Summer wellbeing starts with simple steps...
Here are a few gentle reminders to help you stay well this season:

☀️ Start each day with sunscreen. SPF 50+ is recommended.
☀️ Keep your fluids up by drinking plenty of water and consider electrolytes if it’s especially hot or you’ve been active.
☀️ Alcohol can be dehydrating, so try alternating drinks with water when you’re socialising.
☀️ Insect bites can be common in summer. Remember to apply repellent, wear long sleeves, and, if bitten, gently wash the area and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling.

Taking care of your health doesn’t need to get in the way of a great summer, and our team is always here if you need us.

To book an appointment, contact the clinic on (03) 5202 9333.
