A thriving 5130gms weigh in for this gorgeous homebirth baby boy 💗✨.
His amazing mum shares that this is “the beautiful smiling face of our midwife who was right… when Van was born I looked at him and said he wasn’t big at all and the midwives kind of chuckled in reply as they strongly disagreed… turns out they were right. I was sure no baby would beat miss Georgie’s record 4.95kgs, but he slipped past her at 5.13kgs and no I still can’t believe it!” 😳

I want to tell you my most favourite historical midwife story of all time:
The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, ‘when you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the birth stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him, but if it is a girl, let her live’. The midwives however were followers of God and so did not do what the King of Egypt had told them to do. Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, ‘why have you done this?!’ The midwives answered, (this is my favourite!) ‘Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women, they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive’...
they were such badasses! Defying the King of Egypt, Their slave master and oppressor! It takes courage, resolve and faith to be so bold as to stand up against such an authority... midwives are still doing it today- defending and supporting women and babies despite what is expected of them under repressive governance. This Christmas, I salute you midwives 🤟🏼✊🏼

Wishing you all a restful holiday season. For me, this is a time to remember the birth of Jesus and reflect on his life.... also, what a woman Mary was, giving birth outside the system 😄...

A decade ago, these passionate women joined forces to dream, plan and create The Birth House service. This includes the original educators of our My Birth childbirth education series provided at The Birth House for many years. How special it was to reconnect at our closing celebration!

We had such a beautiful celebration of The Birth House a few weeks ago, with so many of our lovely community coming to farewell this special place! We loved watching big kids running into our Birth Retreat excitedly showing others where they were born, and seeing so many gorgeous growing babies who were born there & others born at home. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate our Birth House. We are open until the end of 2021 or a little longer if our final Birth House baby’s choose a later date! 💜

The Birth House is now closed, however the private midwives working within the Midwives Geelong collective continue to provide homebirth midwifery care. Their contact details are listed below, including other private homebirth midwives who offer services within the Geelong region.

Please be aware that space is limited with privately practicing midwives, so we encourage you to connect with them in the early weeks of pregnancy!

At 12.09am on Wednesday 30th June, Sarah and Jay welcomed their second born, Isaiah Joseph Kumar to their family. Little brother to their daughter, Evelyn Magdalena. Isaiah was born powerfully but gently through water in the relaxing atmosphere of The Birth Retreat. Sarah was supported by her husband, Jay and midwife, Leisa in an experience that she will always cherish and is so grateful for. 💖

With the recent announcement of The Birth House closure, the family are feeling especially grateful to have had the amazing experience of having their son at The Birth Retreat and cannot thank the team enough for an experience that Sarah describes as one where she couldn’t have asked for anything more

Home sweet homebirth 💜.
A beautiful family and their two delighted midwives, the oxytocin was overflowing as this precious girl arrived surrounded by love at home. ✨
