As we conclude World Mental Health Month, here are a few thoughts to ponder:
Myth: “Mental health issues are rare.”
Fact: 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental health condition each year… it’s more common than you think!
Myth: “People with mental health conditions can just ‘snap out of it.’”
Fact: Mental health conditions aren’t a choice. Support and treatment help recovery.
Myth: “Seeking help is a sign of weakness.”
Fact: Asking for help is brave and important. Support is strength, not weakness.

🧠 Mental Health Matters - Let's Talk, Listen, & Support 💙

Did you know?
🟢 Around 1 in 5 Aussies aged 16 to 85 have experienced a mental health condition at some point in their life
🟢 With around 1 in 7 children aged 4 to 17 experiencing a mental health condition
🟢 The most common mental health conditions are depression, anxiety, and substance abuse

Yet many people delay seeking help due to stress, stigma, or not knowing where to start.

This Mental Health Month, we are encouraging everyone to check in with themselves, and reach out early. Talk with a trusted friend, family, your GP, or a mental health service.

You are never alone, and it is ok to ask for help.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🩷

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Australia, and one that affects many lives in diverse ways.

🩷 Over 21,000 people were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024 - around 58 new diagnoses each day.
🩷 For women, the lifetime risk is 1 in 7 people, while for men it is around 1 in 700.
🩷 The good news: the 5 year relative survival rate is around 92%.

What can you do this month (and always) for your health?
🎀 Book your breast screening or mammogram, if you are eligible.
🎀 Speak with your GP to learn more about your personal risk factors.
🎀 Practice regular self-checks and know what changes to look for.
🎀 Encourage friends, family, and colleagues to also get screened.

🥩 Include iron-rich foods such as lean meats, spinach, or fortified cereals
🥛 Choose calcium-rich foods
💧 Stay well hydrated

🌸 Women's Health Week - Day 6 Spotlight: Healthy Ageing & Menopause 💜

Menopause is a natural stage of life, but symptoms like hot flushes, mood swings, and sleep changes can impact your quality of life.

Did you know?
💜 Menopause usually occurs between 45 to 55, but timing can vary
💜 Heart and bone health risks increase after menopause, due to the changes in estrogen

Tips for healthy ageing include:

🥗 Prioritise calcium and protein for bone and muscle health
😴 Rest well - sleep supports brain and body
👩‍⚕️ Regular GP check ups - especially for heart and bone health
