THIRD TRIMESTER ESSENTIALS ✨

Raspberry leaf tea: safe to start drinking 1-2 cups from the beginning of the third trimester. Then I usually recommend trying to increase it up to 3-4 cups a day from 34 weeks until birth. Raspberry leaf tea helps to tone the uterus via enhancing blood flow and nourishment to the uterine muscle. This is thought to help prepare the uterus for birth, improve the likelihood of ‘good’ or ‘productive’ contractions or surges and help to reduce the length of labour. It has also been shown to help prepare breasts for milk production and reduce risk if post partum bleeding!
🌿👌🏻
I love and use
(Not at all sponsored, just love the quality)

Dates: Apart from being loaded in antioxidants, nutrients such as iron, magnesium, potassium & folate.. they are also a great source of fibre to help keep the bowels moving which is a bonus as they can tend to be a little more sluggish during pregnancy due to increased progesterone levels (oh and the slight fact that there’s a little human literally squashing your intestines 🙈🤣)!

Enjoying 6 Dates per day from 36 weeks can also to help ripen the cervix. Research has shown that women’s who consume 6 dates per day from 36 weeks gestation are less likely to need to be induced and more likely to have a shorter first stage of labour. Try and get organic, preservative free if you can and split them up over the day. Please don’t eat 6 at once.. I recommend having 2-3 at a time with a handful of nuts high in protein to help reduce a sugar spike.
A great quick and easy snack!

You can also get creative & use them to make some bliss balls or pop a couple of dates in your porridge or smoothie! ;)

Happy Valentine’s Day to my handsome Hubby 🥰 Last one before you’re a Daddy!
Our little angel due to join us in May 💛✨
Ps.. in the interest of keeping things real, we know these photos look like sunshine and rainbows.. but the reality is this little angel has been a very long time coming with a tough road to get here (more on this another time 😉 ..so our heart goes out to all of you still waiting for your little loves! 🙏🏻..and as much as I’ve been looking forward to being pregnant for so long, and as grateful as I am, it’s also been a tricky road with quite severe hyperemesis for most of this pregnancy, bed ridden for weeks on end, a few trips to hospital for some iv fluids and still vomiting multiple times a day... even now at over 25 weeks! But I’ve got the best support and this guy has been nothing short of amazing! This post is not for sympathy, it’s just to keep it real and just a reminder that real life is so much more than what we see in these tiny social media squares! It hasn’t been easy.. but we wouldn’t change it for the world and we know it will all be well worth it 💛✨

Eye spy with my little eye....

With mask wearing now mandatory in Victoria, one of things I’ve noticed is how much more attention I’m paying to people’s eyes! Isn’t it amazing how much we communicate through our eyes alone!

Looking into your eyes has always been one of my favourite things to do! Iridology is a handy tool us naturopaths and iridologists use to help us understand your bodies innate strengths and weaknesses and where it may need a little extra support.. one of the things I miss most about not seeing patients face to face!

Anyone who has ever brought their kids to see me will know what I’m saying here... my trick to get kids to look into my iris torch is to say “Look how big my nose looks!” 🤣

Ps... I Love this pic of me looking into the beautiful Ella from Ella’s love for oils magical big brown eyes!!
She’s such a sweetheart and loves all things natural medicine and Naturopathy!
It just melts my heart!
If you’re a fellow essential oil lover, head to her page for some great tips, especially on how to get your kids into using essential oils! Some great tips to try over the next few weeks of home schooling 🙌🏻

Iso arvo snack inspo 👌🏻

With stage 3 restrictions and home schooling back in place here in Geelong, I thought I better give you some arvo snack inspo!

Snacks full of protein, good fats and fibre help to stabilise blood sugar levels, keep those hungry kids full, keep that brain firing on all cylinders and and help you breeze through 3pm craziness!
You’re welcome 😉

I’m forever chatting about chia pudding to my patients ... but these flaxseed puddings by stopped me mid scroll!

Just as simple and easy to make - and as far as hormone healthy nutritional profiles go, flaxseeds are the bomb 🙌🏻

They are full of omega 3 fatty acids, an incredible source of fibre and contain high levels of lignans.

A recent clinical trial published in Nutrition Journal earlier this year in January showed some very promising outcomes for regular flaxseed consumption in women with PCOS 👏🏻

In the study, women who consumed 30g (just over a tablespoon) of flax seeds daily for 12 weeks had reduced inflammation, improved insulin resistance,
and more regular periods!

Recipe:
1/2 cup of coconut or natural yoghurt
1 heaped tablespoon of flaxseeds
A dash of pure vanilla extract
A good few shakes of cinnamon
A drizzle of maple syrup
(Mix together and let sit in fridge for at least 4-6 hours, over night is even better!)

Then get as fancy as you like - layer with nut butter, top with berries - and I always love to add some extra seeds like sunflower and pumpkin seeds, shredded coconut and some more cinnamon 😋

You can make in advance and store in fridge for 3-5 days so they are ready to grab and go in the arvo!

Ps.. above is for 1 adult dose - you can do halvies for the little ones 😉
& you can do a double or quadruple batch in bulk to make life easier!

We are sad to announce that the wonderful Lindsay Ingleton will be leaving our clinic at the end of January.

After being an integral part of our team for over 12 years, she will now be taking a step back from clinic to focus on her studies and further enhance her knowledge and skills. She is embarking on an exciting journey and finishing off her Post Graduate Masters of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.

Lindsay has always shared her kind, caring and happy nature with our team and clients and she will be missed immensely. She is a part of the Claridge Naturopathics family and while it is incredibly difficult to see her leave, we wish her the best on her future endeavours and can’t wait to see what else she has to share with the world once she has completed this next phase of her studies.

Lindsay passes on her heartfelt thanks to you all for sharing your health and wellness journey with her, it has been her absolute privilege and an honour. Although she is pulling back from clinic, her main priority is to ensure all of her wonderful patients are well supported. The rest of our Naturopathic team – Robert Claridge, Emma Wisbey and Marnie Macklin – are always here to help if you need.

All the best,
The Claridge Naturopathics Team

EXCESS OESTROGEN 🚺
Ladies listen up 🙋🏼‍♀️...

If you missed me on radio tonight Bay 93.9 Geelong talking all about excess estrogen, don’t worry! I’ve got you covered.. this is such an important topic...and as per usual I had way too much info to get through on air (yes I could chat a leg off a chair 😝) ... so here’s the low down...

Excess estrogen is definitely one of the most common types of hormonal imbalance I see in clinic! The most common symptoms women with oestrogen dominance complain of are PMS and irritability, heavy and clotted periods, period pain, breast fullness and tenderness, headaches before or with their period, hormonal acne, bloating, thrush, fluid retention and hormonal weight gain. Ladies, this is not normal!! 🙅🏼‍♀️

While these symptoms may be common, they are really annoying and uncomfortable, they are most definitely treatable.

My main concern is that long term untreated oestrogen dominance can also lead to the formation of fibroids, endometriosis, fibrocystic breast disease and worst case scenario, oestrogen related cancers such as breast and ovarian cancer.

Not something we should be turning a blind eye to and most certainly not something we should be just masking with a quick-fix solution such as the pill or marina/IUD.

While these treatments may give you some symptomatic relief, sadly they are not treating the underlying hormonal imbalance. They definitely have a roll to play as contraceptives, but I’m sorry to break it to you, they most certainly do not ‘fix’ hormonal imbalances.

To find out what you can do.. I’ve written a blog with ALL the info you need! Check out the link below for all the info: the main causes of excess estrogen.. and more importantly, the best diet and lifestyle tips you can easily implement to get your estrogen back under control 👊🏻💖
