DREAM OF SETTING UP A TAMIL SECONDARY SCHOOL, TURNING INTO A REALITY
Vanakkam. The 13-year dream of Penang Hindu Association, together with 26 other NGO's, to see the establishment of a Tamil Secondary School is finally turning into a reality with YB Kumaran, the Bagan Dalam Member of the State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) proposing Penang to be the first state in Malaysia to have a Tamil Secondary School. This proposal was raised during the 15th sitting of the State Legislative Council recently.
Penang Hindu Association has long been an advocate of setting up a Tamil Secondary School, and in July 2013, together with 26 other NGO's, an official memorandum on this proposal was handed over to all Indian MP’s, Ministry of Education and to the Prime Minister’s Department to look the possibilities (refer to report).
According to YB Kamalanathan, who was then the Deputy Education Minister, the matter would looked into. However, since then, there were no updates on the matter. The recent proposal by YB Kumaran gives a new life on this old issue with the hope that soon the establishment of a Tamil Secondary School will become a reality.
