Dr Christopher Neil

Dr Christopher Neil The current health crisis has revealed much about how medicine and health care operate.

In the doctor-patient relationship, although the doctor may hold the greater share of the knowledge, the individual patient holds the power. Not taking undue advantage of his or her greater knowledge, within this relationship, the doctor has a duty of candour and a duty of disclosure. He or she is always bound to work within the parameters of medical ethics and proper informed consent, in a way wh

ich is demonstrably in the best interests of the patient. Thus, the individual patient holds the power to choose or neglect to choose whatever is offered, as is reasonable. In keeping with the fiduciary duty to put the interests of the individual patient first, the doctor is to be aware of any conflict of interest. Doctors should be aware that a conflict of interest may exist where a third party, such as a government, corporation or regulator intervenes in the natural contractual process and working therapeutic relationship, either by conditional sponsorship/incentivisation or by the threat of harm, or loss of status or withdrawal of privileges, suffered by the doctor. Conflicts or threats of this nature may contribute to a fundamental failure to correctly abide by the duties inherent in medical practice and the doctor-patient relationship, by witting or unwitting failure in the duty of candour and disclosure. Overt and unreasonable submission to the wishes or dictates of third party, for instance in the denial of the patient's wishes for reasonable care and consultation, amounts to an attempt to redefine the doctor-patient relationship, so as accommodate and normalise the conflict of interest. Such a situation may superficially preserve the doctor's ability to practice; however, to the extent that the individual patient has been undermined and infringed upon, this is not the practice of medicine as traditionally understood. The correct choice of the doctor in such a situation is therefore to resist such a third party interposing into the doctor-patient relationship, even if that third party is the government. Once a therapeutic relationship is entered into, the individual patient seeking help cannot be supplanted by the notion of public health, however strongly this notion is appealed to. Public health can and should be weighed appropriately in the decisions, but public health is a relatively abstract concept in comparison to individual patient. The individual patient reserves the power to make any decision and doctor is not absolved from the duty of candour, or any other principle of medical ethics. The doctor-patient relationship cannot be redefined by public health or any advocacy other than the best care of the patient. However, if conditions producing a serious compromise or conflict of interest become embedded in the long term, then a cultural shift in the practice of medicine will have taken place, to the detriment of doctor, patient and public alike.

Check out Sky News gaslighting People First by referring to us as Independents.

They could find the logo for the cannabis party but couldn’t find the logo for People First!

This is just further proof, not that it was needed, that the mainstream media see People First as a threat to the establishment parties including One Nation.

And so they should. Despite only having four months to prepare we had the best ground game of any minor party in Queensland with volunteers at more booths than even One Nation.

There is no doubt Australians are looking for a political party that isn’t controlled by the establishment.

People First is proud of the fact that we never sold out to the establishment. We know true democracy is built on individuals and grassroot organisations not top down unaccountable institutions.

Regardless of the Senate outcome, I intend to build the party until the next Federal election in 2028.

If you would like to be part of a movement that will put the people first we would love you to join the party at www.peoplefirstparty.au

Over the next 12 months we intend to create State Divisions and Branches that will build a foundation to give people a genuine say in how their country is run.

We will then investigate running candidates at State elections in South Australia and Victoria next year.

Make no mistake, it will require a lot of work, but if we want to protect our country and our children we have to do it.

Sincere thanks to everyone who helped in our Victorian campaign!

Sincere thanks to everyone who helped in our Victorian campaign!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our first election campaign.

It was a great effort.

For a party that was only registered 5 months ago, to get the votes we did was an exceptional result.

Everyone should be very proud of themselves. I am incredibly grateful for the commitment of our volunteers and candidates.

In regard to my own Senate race, after 28.4% of the votes being counted, I have received 5% of the votes counted.

This means I need to rely on preferences to overtake One Nation who have 7.2% of the vote.

While not impossible, it will be difficult to narrow the gap. The distribution of preferences won’t occur for a few more weeks while votes are being scrutinised and entered into the AEC computers for processing.

I will put up a post tomorrow asking for volunteers who wish to scrutineer. Scrutineering will begin Tuesday afternoon in Brisbane. Details to come.

Thanks again to everyone for your support. I really appreciate it and hope you are getting a well earned rest.
