Did you know your ankle takes about 1.5× your body weight each step when walking… and up to 8× when jumping or running?

👉 Here’s what you should know about sprains vs. strains:

Sprain: happens when the ligaments around your ankle are stretched or torn by an awkward twist or impact.
Strain: involves muscles or tendons being over-stretched, often from over-use (think lots of jumping/landing) rather than just one bad turn.

🚨 Common signs to watch out for:

* Sudden sharp pain when the injury happens.
* Swelling or bruising (especially in the hours after).
* Difficulty putting weight on the ankle or moving it normally.
* If untreated or repeatedly injured: risk of chronic instability.

đź’ˇ Prevention & first-steps:

* Warm up, build ankle strength, improve balance & stability.
* Wear shoes with support (especially if you’ve had ankle trouble before).
* Extra care if you’ve already had an ankle injury; the risk of re-injury is higher.
