Hands up if you have a smartwatch or step tracker on your wrist? It might be time to check your daily steps and set yourself a goal!

We talk a lot about movement, but keeping active can help to improve both your physical and mental health.

If you find you’re not getting many steps in each day, consider small changes in your daily life for positive results.

Instead of planning a coffee shop catchup with a friend, grab a coffee together and go for a walk.

Add some extra distance to your dog’s daily walk.

Adjust your commute to get off the train or bus a stop earlier and walk the rest of the way to work for some extra steps.

January is a great time to focus on healthy habits for the year ahead.
The good news is that meaningful changes can be achieved with small, consistent actions over time.

If you haven't set any New Years' resolutions yet, consider starting with simple, achievable goals like:

Moving more
- Prioritising quality sleep
Drinking more water throughout the day.

To improve your chances of sticking with these goals, try turning them into SMART goals. That means making them specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. For example, instead of saying "I want to exercise more", you might say:
"I will commit to moving for 30 minutes, three times per week, for the next four weeks."

Being clear about what you are doing, how often, and for how long helps turn good intentions into sustainable habits, rather than vague goals that are easy to abandon.
