I think I've now seen it all 🤣

I'm a dog groomer. Client brings in the same "dog" every month. It's clearly a raccoon. Nobody will acknowledge this.

First appointment, January. Woman scheduled a "Pomeranian mix" grooming.
Brought in a raccoon. Actual raccoon. In a dog carrier.
I stared. "Ma'am, that's"
"His name is Biscuit. Just a trim please. He gets matted."
My manager was standing right there. Nodded. "Standard Pomeranian package?"
"Yes please."

I groomed a raccoon. It was surprisingly cooperative. Probably used to it.
Charged her $65. She tipped $20.

Biscuit returns monthly. Same routine. Nobody mentions the obvious.
Other groomers wash him. Trim his nails. Brush his teeth. We have before/after photos displayed. "Biscuit - Pomeranian Mix."
He's visibly a raccoon. Black mask. Ringed tail. Hands instead of paws. Eats from the trash can in our break room.

New employee started last week. Saw Biscuit's appointment.
"Why is there a raccoon on the schedule?"
Everyone went quiet.
Manager said, "That's Biscuit. He's a Pomeranian mix."
"But he's literally"
"A valued client. Who pays on time. Do we have a problem?"

New girl didn't argue.
Yesterday, health inspector came. Routine check. Saw Biscuit getting a blowout.
"Is that a raccoon?"
Owner didn't look up. "Pomeranian mix."
Inspector wrote something. Left.

We passed inspection.
I've been here four years. Groomed Biscuit 48 times. He's objectively a raccoon.
But on paper? Pomeranian mix.
And everyone just..... accepts this.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm insane. If we're all collectively hallucinating.
But then Biscuit shows up. Climbs onto the grooming table using his weird little hands. Chatters at me.
And I wash him. Style his fur. Send him home looking fabulous.

Because apparently this is my life now.
Professional raccoon groomer.
Pretending it's a dog.
For $65 plus tip.
Every month.
Forever.

Let this story reach more hearts....

Happy New Year
As we celebrate today, let's celebrate our pets that are still with us.
The families that have lost their furry, feather and scaly friends, we celebrate the memories of joy, love, comfort that they had given us.

This one gets me every single time!

The Christmas Dog Nobody Saw

On a quiet Christmas Eve, with the world tucked in tight,
The house glowed softly in the warm candlelight.
The tree shimmered gently, the stockings hung straight,
And magic felt close… but for one left to fate.

Outside in the cold, by the back garden gate,
Lay a dog once cherished, now forgotten by late.
A year ago he arrived with bright wrapping and bows—
A gift for the children, as the story now goes.

At first there were giggles, new toys, and delight,
But excitement fades fast when the season takes flight.
What once felt like treasure soon felt like a chore,
And slowly he mattered to no one anymore.

Curled tight against winter, his breath small and slow,
His fur dusted silver by the falling snow.
He waited in silence for footsteps or love,
While stars watched him gently from the darkness above.

Then through the still night came a soft-crunching sound—
Bootsteps that sparkled where they touched the ground.
A red-coated figure with a lantern aglow
Knelt down beside him in the shimmering snow.

With hands warm as firelight, he brushed off the frost,
Whispering kind words for the life nearly lost.
“You were never a trinket,” he said with a sigh,
“A soul isn’t something one should cast aside.”

The dog lifted his head with what strength he could spare,
And leaned into the stranger who finally cared.
In one gentle motion, he lifted him high,
Holding him close as he glanced at the sky.

“Come, little one,” he called to the reindeer above,
“Let’s find this heart a home full of steady, true love.
Not a moment of wonder, not a season’s quick joy—
But a family who sees you as more than a toy.”

And as the sleigh lifted into the winter night air,
A sparkle of hope lingered bright everywhere.
For some gifts are fleeting—but a life is not so;
A dog’s trust is forever, more precious than snow.

And long after the sleigh dipped out of sight,
A voice echoed softly through the peaceful night:
“Remember this always, and remember it right—
A dog is a promise, not a present of light.”

Sacred Souls Pet Funerals

When a devoted pet or fur-baby passes away, many people find themselves with a huge void in their lives. For a lot of people losing a pet is exactly the same (or sometimes worse) as losing a close family member. Acknowledging this grief is important for the healing process.

It’s important to allow yourself to draw a conclusion on their passing and a pet ceremony funeral is a way to acknowledge the impact they had on your life.

Why a pet ceremony funeral? Gives you the opportunity to celebrate the life of your special pet.

Sacred Souls Pet Funerals works in close consultation with you to create a personalised pet ceremony funeral that will reflect your pet and its personality. A pet ceremony can take place at your home or another location if you would like to scatter the ashes. You have the choice as to how many family and friends you wish to invite. Sacred Souls Pet Funerals also provide a door to door service as our way acknowledging the loss of your beloved pet.
