Melbourne East Disability Advocacy provides advocacy, information and support to people with a disability in the local community. Advocacy assists and empowers people with an intellectual disability to have control over decision making and prevent discrimination and social exclusion. Disability Advocacy ensures the human and legal rights of people with disabilities are promoted and protected so that people with disabilities can fully participate in the community. An advocate in the disability sector works to ensure the rights of people with disabilities are upheld and supports people with disabilities to make decisions affecting their lives. MEDA provides individual and volunteer Citizen Advocates for adults with a disability.

Last month, the MEDA community came together for our 40th Annual General Meeting. It was a great opportunity to reflect on the year, as well as to connect and celebrate on all we have achieved together.

We were delighted to recognise and honour several incredible members of our community whose dedication and spirit embody MEDA’s values:

Ali G – 10+ Years of Service Award
Will E – Life Member Award
Blake B – Above and Beyond Friend and Supporter Award
Libby H & Jodie C – Strong and Bold Citizen Advocacy Partnership Award
Pete Smith - Acknowledged and honoured for his role as MEDA's Patron for the past 15 years, now retiring

Congratulations to all our award recipients, and heartfelt thanks to every advocate, volunteer, and supporter who continues to make MEDA’s work possible.

Some photos from our recent patisserie classes, run by ex-Ottolenghi pastry chef and our Business Support Officer, Mel! This was part of our Foodie Heaven Fundraiser, as well as Greek and Entertainment Food packs prepared by MEDA advocate, Honi and friend of MEDA, Tas! We raised almost $5000 from this fundraising initiative, thank you so much to everyone who supported us!
