Glen Innes Hospital Redevelopment update

In the lead-up to construction commencing on the Glen Innes Hospital Redevelopment, the public is advised of the construction zones and available parking options when visiting the hospital site.

Parking:

Parking for the public continues to be available in the horseshoe car park off Taylor Street. Overflow parking is available along Taylor and Macquarie streets.

There will also be parking reserved for the staff accommodation pods in the horseshoe car park.

Hospital, Emergency Department and Pathology access:

Access to the hospital main entry, Emergency Department and NSW Health Pathology remains unchanged from Taylor Street and will continue to be available during the construction works.

Construction zones:

Our builder TCQ Construction has set up their site compound on the corner of Ferguson Street/Gwydir Highway and Macquarie Street.

Early works will be occurring between the existing hospital and the Museum site, and this area will be fenced and not accessible. As the construction progresses, the updated construction zones will be communicated to the public.

No-go zone:

Please do not access the driveway from Ferguson Street/Gwydir Highway, this area is reserved for Ambulance access and construction activity.

We appreciate your patience as we commence the construction phase on the Glen Innes Hospital Redevelopment project. Head to www.nsw.gov.au/glen-innes-hospital-redevelopment for more information on the hospital redevelopment.

Influenza (flu) is serious, but isn’t as scary if you’re vaccinated. A flu vaccine offers you and your child the best protection from serious illness.

The yearly flu vaccine is free for children aged 6 months to under 5 years, Aboriginal children aged 6 months and over, and children with serious health conditions. It is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over.

If your child is 2, 3 or 4 years old, they can get a free nasal spray flu vaccine in NSW. It is gentle, painless, and needle-free.

Book your family’s flu vaccine today: www.healthdirect.gov.au/nswfluvaccine

“Fast from midnight” is no longer the whole story.

Fasting is becoming more individualised, and factors in your procedure and how your body handles stomach emptying.

“Sip to Send” approaches may allow some patients to consume small amounts of clear, carbohydrate-containing fluids closer to surgery.

On the other hand, weight-loss medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro slow gastric emptying. These patients may be advised to have a longer preparation, including a 24-hour period of clear fluids before their procedure.

So fasting may be shorter for some, longer for others.

It is about matching risk and management to the individual, not a one-size-fits-all rule.

If you're undergoing a procedure, inform your team about all medications you take, including weight-loss drugs. Discuss your specific risks and plan with your anaesthetist and have a safe procedure. 👍
