Not sure if a child might need glasses? Here are five signs to watch out for:

🤔 Squinting
Frequent squinting may be a sign that a child is trying to focus better or reduce blurriness caused by refractive errors like near-sightedness or farsightedness.

📺 Sitting too close to screens
If a child often sits very close to the television or holds devices too close to their face, it may indicate difficulty seeing clearly from a normal distance.

🤲 Frequent eye rubbing
While children might rub their eyes when tired or upset, frequent rubbing can also indicate eye strain or fatigue, possibly from struggling to see clearly.

🤕 Complaints of headaches
Regular complaints of headaches, especially after reading or doing other close activities, can be a sign of eyestrain or vision issues needing correction.

🫣 Covering one eye
Covering one eye can be a method children use to cope with double vision or to see more clearly if one eye has much better focus than the other.

If you notice any of these signs, it might be time for a visit to the optometrist. Book online at https://glenorchyeyecare.com.au/

Do you find that your glasses feel fine when you first put them on, but after you've worn them for a while they are just so heavy on your nose? These frames are called rimless frames (for obvious reasons), and they are incredibly light. All they are, are two sides, the bridge (these make up the chassis) and two lenses. The metal components are made of titanium, so they are very light and very strong, even if they feel a bit flimsy at first. The lenses, since they are not restricted by any frame rims, can be made any shape you want. The lens shapes that are with the chassis are only suggestions. If you have chosen a pair with a squarish set of lenses in them, but preferred a rounder shape, that is what we will do. There are no holds barred.
Come into our practice at 368 Main Road, Glenorchy, and let us amaze you with the lightness of these frames and maybe change your life!

Spring into summer sun safety!

As the weather warms up, tick off the 4 S’s to protect both your eyes and your skin every time you head out this spring/summer season:

✅ Sunnies – Choose sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB rays and meet the Australian and New Zealand standard for effective UV protection (category 3 and above).
✅ Sun hat – Don't forget to pack a hat! Wide-brimmed is best for added eye protection
✅ Shade – Seek shade when possible - especially during peak UV hours.
✅ Sunscreen – Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ or higher, as recommended by Australian standards.

The Carrera range of optical and sports frames and sunglasses has been at the top of the game for 70 years. Their recognisable style meets excellent design to give you exactly what you need in any given circumstance. Skiing, bike riding, everyday use, the expanse of their range can cover everything. The majority of the glasses can be scripted, even the skiing goggles, thanks to a new design to hold the prescription lenses in a lens holder *behind* the large cover lens. And if all of that isn't enough, our own cricket captain, Pat Cummings, has also designed several frames in conjunction with Carrera, so you can even have a piece of 'C'mon Aussie!'

Many health funds run out on December 31st. If yours is one of them and you haven't made use of your optical benefits, come in and we will help you organise a pair of glasses, in many cases covered by your fund. Maybe a spare of reading glasses in the bedroom or a cheap pair of sunglasses for the car would be good. A visit to one of our three optometrists is bulk billed to Medicare, but if we've seen you earlier in the year, you may not even need an eye test. Call in at 368 Main Road, Glenorchy, or ring on 62729407 and we will get things rolling.

Eye Friendly Foods: Key Foods & Nutrients to Nourish Your Vision

Your diet plays an important role in your overall wellbeing, including your eyes.

Here are 6 essential nutrients for healthy eyes — and the foods that contain them:

🥬 Lutein & Zeaxanthin – Dark leafy greens like spinach, kale, broccoli and corn
🥕 Vitamin A – Carrots, sweet potato, pumpkin and mango
🍊 Vitamin C – Citrus fruits, berries, bell peppers (capsicum) and kiwi
🥑 Vitamin E – Nuts, seeds, avocados and healthy oils
🦪 Zinc – Shellfish, legumes, eggs and seeds
🐟 Omega-3s (EPA & DHA) – Fatty fish, like salmon, mackerel and sardines

Including these foods as part of a healthy diet can support your body’s nutritional needs, including those related to eye function.

It's World Diabetes Day.

Did you know diabetes can affect your eyes?

Diabetes can lead to an eye condition known as Diabetic Retinopathy, which when left untreated may cause eye damage and vision loss.

Like many other eye conditions, symptoms are not always evident in the early stages, which is why regular eye tests are so important for early diagnosis.
