We’re seeing more and more people putting their homes on the market… and a lot of the time, it comes down to one thing — the stairs.

It’s not that they want to leave.
It just starts to feel like they don’t have much choice.

But what doesn’t always get talked about is how expensive that decision actually is.

With Perth house prices around the $1M mark, even downsizing isn’t cheap. By the time you find something suitable, you’re often still spending big money.

On a $1.5M purchase, stamp duty alone is roughly $68,000.
Then you’ve got agent fees, marketing, removalists… it adds up quickly. You can easily be into six figures just to move.

And that’s before you even think about what you’re leaving behind.

So it’s worth asking a different question…

What if you didn’t have to move?

That $68K in stamp duty is often more than the cost of installing a home lift.

Instead of spending that money to leave, you could put it into your current home and make it work for you.

Stay in the place you know.
Stay close to your neighbours.
Stay where your life already is.

Just without the stairs being a problem.

Before you decide to sell, it might be worth thinking about —
do you really need to move, or do you just need a better way to live in your home?

We’ve just completed a SWIFT Pro installation in a stunning new build down near Denmark, WA — and it’s a perfect example of how a lift can complement a home, not compromise it.

This home has been designed around sustainability and self-sufficiency, so the owners needed a lift that aligned with that vision. The SWIFT was the clear choice.

It’s fully battery-powered, uses minimal energy, and even recharges as it travels down — meaning roughly every fourth trip is essentially free. Combined with the EcoDrive system, it keeps running costs low while reducing overall energy use.

It’s also connected to the home’s independent power setup, making it a smart, future-focused solution.

The build isn’t quite finished yet, but it’s already shaping up to be something special — and we’re proud to have been part of it.

If you’re building or planning ahead, it’s worth thinking about how a lift can be designed in from the start — not just for convenience, but for long-term living.

Most people don’t really want to leave their home…
it just starts to feel like they don’t have much choice.

The stairs get a bit tougher.
You catch yourself thinking, “what if I slip one day?”
And before you know it, moving feels like the only way forward.

But here’s the thing people don’t always think about…

Moving isn’t just a financial decision — it’s a personal one.

It’s leaving the home where everything happened.
Where the kids grew up.
Where birthdays, Christmases, and everyday life played out.
Even the neighbours you’ve known for years.

And then there’s the cost side of it.
Agent fees, stamp duty, removalists… it all adds up pretty quickly. You can end up spending a small fortune just to start again somewhere else.

So maybe the better question is:

What if you didn’t actually have to move?

A home lift can make a huge difference. It means you can keep living in the home you love, just without the stairs getting in the way.

Stay where you’re comfortable.
Stay where your life is.
Just make it easier on yourself.

“𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐝 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞…”

Most people don’t look into a home lift because they 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 one right now.

They look into it after:

* A fall
* Knee or hip issues
* Parents moving in
* Stairs suddenly becoming a daily struggle

And the comment we hear all the time?

“We wish we had done this earlier.”

Not because they couldn’t manage before…
But because adding a lift after things become difficult is often more stressful, more urgent, and sometimes more expensive.

The interesting part is — a lot of our clients are now planning ahead.

They’re building or renovating with the future in mind:
✔ Making sure they can stay in the home long-term
✔ Avoiding major changes later
✔ Keeping independence without having to move

A lift isn’t just about today — it’s about making sure your home still works for you in 5, 10, 20 years.

If you’ve ever thought about “future-proofing” your home, even just a little bit, it might be worth having a conversation earlier than you think.

Feel free to reach out if you’re curious — even if it’s just to understand what’s possible.

Short answer: 𝐲𝐞𝐬 — 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐝𝐝 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞.

Long answer (the bit people don’t always realise):

It’s usually not about if you can add a lift… it’s about 𝐡𝐨𝐰 you do it.

Every home is a little different, but there are a few common ways we make it work:

• Through-floor (inside the home)
These are popular because they don’t require a full shaft. The lift travels through a simple cut-out between floors and can often be positioned in a spare corner, near a stair void, or even within a cupboard space.

• Internal shaft (if space allows)
If you’ve got the room, we can build a more traditional shaft inside — but this can involve more structural work, so it’s not always the first option in an existing home.

• External shaft (a really underrated option)
When space inside is tight, adding a shaft on the outside of the home can actually be the easiest and least disruptive solution. It also means you don’t have to sacrifice internal layout or living space.

The biggest factors we look at are:

Available space (inside and outside)
Structure of the home
Access between floors
Your budget and how far you want to go with building works

A lot of people assume their home “won’t work” — but more often than not, there’s a solution they just haven’t considered yet.

If you’re curious, the easiest next step is just having someone take a look (even photos can be enough to start with). You’ll usually find it’s more achievable than you think.

Positioning a lift is one of the most important parts of the whole process — and it’s often where people get stuck.

Most people start by trying to make it work inside the home… but when space is already tight, that can mean compromising layouts, losing storage, or making major structural changes.

What many people don’t realise is that an external shaft can be a really smart alternative.

Building a shaft on the outside of your home can often be far less intrusive than trying to carve out space internally — and with the right design, it can blend in beautifully with the home and look like it was always meant to be there.

We recently worked with a client in East Fremantle who didn’t want to sacrifice the incredible river views from his living area. Instead of compromising his views, he built a shaft on the outside of his home. The result? He kept his views, avoided major internal changes, and the shaft became a feature in its own right thanks to some stunning stone panelling that tied in perfectly with the home.

More and more clients are now exploring external shafts as a practical, design-friendly solution when space inside is at a premium.

If you’ve been thinking “we just don’t have the room” — there’s a good chance you’ve got more options than you think. Feel free to send us a message or give us a call if you'd like us to take a look at your home and talk through some options you may not have considered.

We’ve just wrapped up a beautiful lift installation in a coastal home in Mindarie, and it couldn’t have suited the space better.

The homeowners chose a SWIFT Pro Large with glass panels to complement their light-filled entryway—and it really lets that natural light shine through. The colour palette was carefully customised to tie in with the relaxed seaside feel of the home, and the end result is something pretty special.

Planning ahead was a big part of this project too. The lift is fully wheelchair accessible, making the home more practical for the future without compromising on style. Thanks to the generous space, the larger lift fits comfortably without overwhelming the area—keeping that open, airy feel intact.

A great example of how a lift can be both functional and a beautiful feature in the home.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐧𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐬… 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭?

These are two of the first questions homeowners usually ask us — especially when lifts are going in near bedrooms, close to neighbours, or being used by older family members.

A good residential lift shouldn’t draw attention to itself every time it runs. When it’s designed properly, it just becomes part of everyday life. Many modern battery-driven lifts are far quieter than people expect — often quieter than appliances already running in the home.

Power outages are another big concern, and this is where lift systems really differ:
🔹 Some lifts simply stop
🔹 Others rely entirely on mains power
🔹 Battery-driven lifts keep operating and will safely return to a level

These details really matter — not just for convenience, but for safety, peace of mind, and meeting council requirements.

Taking the time to ask the right questions before choosing a lift can make a huge difference to how confident and comfortable you feel living with it long-term.

Have questions about noise or power outages? Ask us — these are things you deserve clear answers on.

𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐬 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐋𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬?

Not at all — and this surprises many people.

We regularly speak with homeowners who assume a home lift must be large, expensive, or designed only for wheelchairs.
In reality, single-person home lifts are one of the most popular choices for people wanting to stay independent in a multi-storey home.

At Perth Lift Company, single-person lifts are ideal if you:
✔ Live alone or as a couple
✔ Want to avoid stairs as you age
✔ Have limited space
✔ Prefer a discreet, compact solution

These lifts:
• Have a small footprint
• Integrate neatly into existing homes
• Are cost-effective
• Are designed for everyday comfort and safety — not hospitals

For many of our clients, a single-person lift is the difference between staying in the home they love or feeling forced to move.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐌𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝?

This is one of the most common questions people ask Google — but rarely ask out loud.

The good news?
Modern residential home lifts are surprisingly low-maintenance, especially compared to commercial lifts.

At Perth Lift Company, we design and install lifts that:
✔ Are serviced once per year
✔ Don’t require constant call-outs
✔ Are built specifically for home use
✔ Are supported locally, long-term

Regular servicing helps ensure:
• Smooth, quiet operation
• Safety systems are always working
• Small issues are caught early
• Your lift stays reliable for years to come

Ongoing maintenance isn’t about inconvenience — it’s about peace of mind, especially if the lift is supporting your independence or a loved one at home.
