Many people come into our clinic saying they have “sciatica.”

But the reality is that sciatica is not a diagnosis. It is a symptom.

Sciatica simply describes nerve-related pain that travels from the lower back into the buttock and down the leg. The important question is what is actually causing that nerve irritation.

If you have been told you have scoliosis, it is easy to assume that your spinal curve is the reason for your back pain. But in many cases, especially with mild scoliosis, pain can be driven by other factors such as muscle tension, reduced movement, work demands, stress, or general spinal loading over time.

That is why a proper assessment matters. Instead of focusing only on the curve, physiotherapy looks at how you move, how you load your spine, and what your body needs to function better.
