Jett's decision to become a nurse came from a personal experience.

"I was quite sick when I was younger and spent a lot of time in hospital," he said.

"I received lots of love and care from the nurses and now I feel like it's my chance to give that to others."

Jett has joined us from the Philippines 🌴and is now one of our Newly Qualified Nurses. He is working in the Acute Care of the Elderly unit at Robina Hospital. 👨‍⚕️

"I find being compassionate is really important in the nursing field," Jett said.

"There's always a reason for why something is happening, and if I can bring compassion into my work I can connect with my patients."

Welcome to Gold Coast Health, Jett! We know your patients and team will love you. 🤩

Starting the day right at Robina Hospital! 🥣

A simple early‑morning idea is making a big difference to patient flow and experience.

The Transfer Unit Breakfast Club welcomes patients who are ready for discharge or transfer from 6am, offering a complimentary breakfast pack and a comfortable space to relax while final steps are completed.

Nurse Unit Manager Helena Anne Moore said the initiative is helping open inpatient beds earlier in the day and easing pressure on the Emergency Department.

“The Breakfast Club provides a welcoming space for patients who are ready to leave their ward,” Helena said.

“By transferring patients earlier in the morning, we can free up beds and support smoother patient flow across the hospital.”

Patients can enjoy cosy seating and a calm environment while they wait - as demonstrated here by Registered Nurse Natasha Roberts and Endorsed Enrolled Nurse Jessica Wilson. 📸

A fantastic example of teamwork improving both patient care and hospital flow. 👏

It's International Women's Day, and an exciting new service for women is coming to Robina Hospital. ♀️

The Outpatients Hysteroscopy service gives women faster access to care with little disruption to daily life - in fact, patients can have the procedure and go home in the same day.

It is a minimally invasive medical procedure that allows a doctor to examine the inside of the uterus and cervix to diagnose causes of heavy periods, infertility, postmenopausal bleeding, and recurrent miscarriages.

🏥 Gold Coast University Hospital is one of the first hospitals in Australia to provide the outpatient service, with clinicians visiting us from all over the country to learn. Now, we're about to commence the service at Robina Hospital at the end of the month to support more women.

Here's what women can expect on the day of their procedure. 🌟

The Creative Health Hub is marking International Women’s Day with a special art exhibition celebrating the creative talents of women across Gold Coast Health and our community. 💜

Featured artist Alisa Bray, Administration Officer at Robina Hospital, is showcasing her beautiful graphite sketches of vintage-inspired birds on brown paper. Her work captures delicate detail, quiet stillness and the calming beauty of nature. 🕊️
“Working in the hospital, you see how important moments of calm and beauty can be," Alisa said.

“Creating these drawings has been a way for me to share something peaceful with the staff, patients and families who pass through these spaces."

The exhibition forms part of the Creative Health Hub’s ongoing commitment to supporting staff creativity and integrating the arts into healthcare environments.

🖼️ The exhibition is on display throughout March in the main corridor at Robina Hospital. ✨

Registered Nurse Richelle Tailor’s passion for oncology care was shaped by the support her mum received during cancer treatment.

“The nurses who cared for my mum made such a difference during an incredibly difficult time,” Richelle said.

“It showed me the impact a nurse can have and inspired me to care for every patient as I would my own family.”

For the past four years, Richelle has supported oncology patients across Gold Coast University Hospital, BreastScreen, and now in her Clinical Nurse role at Robina Hospital.

“I find the patients so inspiring. It’s tough, but they keep turning up every time for their treatment and don’t realise how amazing they are just for doing that,” she said.

“It also reminds me how lucky we are to have free healthcare and screening services like BreastScreen.”

Richelle is also grateful for the team around her.

“I’m incredibly lucky to work with such passionate and dedicated clinicians. The support we give each other makes a real difference for us and our patients.”

Thank you, Richelle, for the compassion and respect you bring to our Gold Coast Health community. 🩷

Michelle Carter feels like she’s come home. 🏠

As the new Director of Nursing Robina and Communities, Michelle has returned to the facility where she started with Gold Coast Health in 2011.

She’s been quickly reminded of what makes Robina Hospital special. ✨

“I love how you can walk the corridors and people will stop you to say hello,” she said.

“I feel comfortable because of the sense of community here. It’s a welcoming place and everyone works very well together to deliver excellent patient care.”

Michelle brings a wealth of experience to the role, which aligns closely to her passions for critical care, emergency nursing and patient flow.

In addition to Robina Hospital, the role also covers Varsity Lakes Day Hospital and Tugun Satellite Health Centre. 🏥

The DON Robina and Communities works closely with the Director of Medical Services as the clinical leads for those facilities.

We wish you all the best in your new role, Michelle.

Care doesn’t start on the ward... It begins at the drop-off zone. 💛

For many patients arriving at Robina Hospital, the drop-off zone is one of the busiest and most emotionally charged places. It can be a place where nerves run high, first impressions are formed, and care begins.

Operational Services Officer Luke is often one of the first people patients meet.

“I’ve got to know so many patients over time,” Luke said.

“Our regulars all know me, and I always make sure to remember everyone’s names.”

Recognisable by his signature Akubra 🤠, Luke says the role is all about easing the experience for others.

“I really love helping people move through their day with a little less stress,” he said.

From a friendly hello to practical support in the car park, Luke’s work is a reminder that care doesn’t just happen inside hospital walls.

Elizabeth signed up as a volunteer with Gold Coast Health following a gentle nudge from her daughter.

“We were supposed to volunteer together. I came, but she didn’t, and here I am15 years later,” she laughed.

What has kept Elizabeth turning up year after year? For her, it’s the people.

“The people you work with make a huge difference to your life,” she said.

“My time here also lets me step away from my own troubles and really put things into perspective.”

Thank you, Elizabeth. Your kindness makes a real difference. 💕

We are thrilled to announce Dr Michael Aitken as our Robina Hospital and Tugun Satellite Health Centre Clinical Director for Emergency!

Dr Aitken has been our Robina Medical Director since 2020 and with Gold Coast Health for 20 years.

As Robina Hospital continues to grow, Dr Aitken has taken on the new role of Clinical Director to support advancing emergency care in the community.

"When Robina opened it was a much smaller and limited Emergency Department, but now we've grown into one of the busiest ED's in the state," Dr Aitken said.

"I'm really proud of what we have already achieved - opening our own dedicated paediatric zone in ED, our triage upgrade and additional beds.

"Now it's about establishing our key priorities and the direction we are going in."

Congratulations, Dr Aitken. 👏

👩‍ “It wasn’t what patients had lost that stayed with me – it was what remained.”

Nurse Unit Manager for the Geriatric Evaluation Management (GEM) Unit, Elizabeth Soleil-Moudiky-joh, had a values-led approach in shaping the final stage of H Block at Gold Coast University Hospital.

“My interest in geriatrics began in neurorehabilitation, where I first saw the longer journey patients take after acute care,” Elizabeth said.

“What stayed with me was the importance of dignity – especially for people living with dementia.

The new 24-bed GEM Unit on the Lower Ground floor, opening in the first quarter of 2026, will complete the 70-bed H Block facility which welcomed its first patients in September 2025.

One of its key features is the independent living bedroom – a space that allows patients to practise everyday tasks as part of their recovery.

“It’s unique to our unit and offers a home-like space where patients can safely practise everyday tasks such as making a cup of tea, preparing a simple meal and following familiar routines,” Elizabeth said.

“Clinicians are close by, but the focus is on giving people the confidence to reconnect with their everyday activities.”
