Our staff are at the heart of everything we do. This is Catriona sharing their experience at ELC:

Working at Empowered Living Choices has shown me how powerful compassion and support can be, especially when working with someone living with Motor Neurone Disease, a condition that is progressing quickly. Being part of their journey has taught me the importance of dignity, patience, and empowering people to live life on their own terms.

The moments that stay with me most are often the simplest—sharing a laugh, creating comfort, or helping someone stay connected to the things they love. |Those moments remind me that even during life’s toughest challenges, there is extraordinary strength and courage within people.

Through my time at ELC, I’ve also had the chance to grow. Recently I was asked to step into a Team Leader role, which was incredibly humbling and something I’m very proud of. It means a lot to be trusted to support not only the people we care for but also the amazing team around me.

ELC truly lives its mission of empowering people and helping them discover the strength within themselves. I’m proud to be part of a team that leads with compassion and makes a meaningful difference every single day. 💜

The NDIS was built for independence. So why are so many providers building dependency instead?
A participant once told me: "I don't think I could do this without you."
She meant it as a compliment. I felt proud for about three seconds — then I felt sick.
Because she was right. And that was entirely my fault.

Our CEO, Courtney Scott, had the privilege of mentoring a group of remarkable young women from Southport State High School at the International Women’s Day Breakfast.

Watching these young women step forward with curiosity, intelligence and courage was a powerful reminder that leadership is not about age — it’s about mindset.

When we invest time in mentoring and encouraging the next generation, we don’t just support individuals — we shape the future.

To the young women we met yesterday:
Keep asking questions.
Keep being brave.
And never underestimate the impact you can have on the world.

We recently had the honour of supporting a much-loved gentleman living with MND. He was cared for by a dedicated and highly skilled team who supported him with dignity, safety and respect until the very end of his journey.

As his supports have now concluded, we have a rare moment where one of our exceptional 24/7 support teams, who work impeccably well together, — made up of both experienced Support Workers and ENs — are a open to a new participant who requires complex and specialised care.

We did it — thank you.

Last night our CEO Courtney joined leaders across the Gold Coast for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout — not to pretend we know what it’s like to be homeless, but to stand in solidarity, raise awareness, and help bring real change.

Together, our city raised over $700,000, and every dollar will stay right here on the Coast — providing food, dignity, and safe shelter to people doing it tough. This includes the development of 60 new homes for families at risk of or experiencing homelessness. It’s just a drop in the ocean of what’s needed — but every drop matters.

Homelessness doesn’t discriminate, can we help everyone? Maybe not.
But we show up, we speak up, and we keep trying.
