Be honest, are you training through pain right now? 🫣

Last week we spoke about whether foam rolling can help you with your pain & niggles. This week, I want to make it really clear who physiotherapy at Next Level is for. 🤓

Foam rolling has somehow become both a recovery staple and a form of self-punishment 😅

If you train, run, or hit the gym around Varsity Lakes, you have probably used one (or avoided it entirely! 😬)

The truth is that foam rolling can help with short-term pain relief and movement, but it is not a magic fix for tight muscles. 🙅🏻‍♂️ It works best as one small part of a bigger picture, alongside strength training, mobility work, and good warm-ups.

When it is used properly, foam rolling can absolutely be part of a comprehensive rehab or mobility routine! When it's not used properly, it often just hurts without much payoff. 😫

Is foam rolling worth it or is it just hype? 🤔💭

Short answer: foam rolling DOES WORK... But not in the way many people think. We are not breaking up scar tissue or muscle adhesions with a simple foam roller.😵‍💫

But we ARE changing the muscle tension to reduce muscle pain, increase mobility & range of motion, and make your workouts feel better. 🙌🏽

Our best advice is consistent foam rolling, paired with a smart warm up routine and strength training.🏋️‍♂️

And a quick tip- 15 sec per area is way more doable than the classic 60 seconds! 👏🏼 👏🏼👏🏼

The ultimate goal is to get you pain-free, BUT-

Experiencing *some pain* during rehab doesn’t automatically mean you’re doing damage, going backwards, or not making progress. 😬

When guided properly, low levels of pain can be completely acceptable in the rehab process. 🤓

Here’s what we look at with our clients 👇

1️⃣ Is the pain higher than 2–3 out of 10?
2️⃣ Does the pain linger well after the session?
3️⃣ Is the pain stopping you from performing the exercise properly?

If you answer yes to any of these, we don’t stop rehab! Instead
we adjust, regress, or modify so you can keep moving forward safely.
