Positively Hypnobirthing

Positively Hypnobirthing Hypnobirthing Australia™ Course (Childbirth Education) taught by Kate Eakin on the Gold Coast

Hi, I’m Kate and I’m a certified Hypnobirthing Australia™ Practitioner and a Childbirth Educator (HPCE) on the Gold Coast. I’m passionate about teaching the Hypnobirthing Australia™ program because I truly believe that every woman, whether it be your first, third or fourth time giving birth, you have the right to have an amazing, positive birthing experience, which you feel empowered by and the Hypnobirthing Australia™ course offers just this. I can support you and your birth companion as a practitioner as well as being a two times hypnobirthing mum. I had two calm, positive births using hypnobirthing techniques - one of which was in hospital and the other was an amazing, vaginal breech birth delivered unintentionally at home. The ‘hypno’ refers to the use of hypnotherapy in the course and this is a great tool that helps you to release fear and tension and change preconceived, negative thoughts and encourages a positive mindset, self-confidence and awareness. Hypnosis is a process like meditation - you are conscious and awake, although show signs of being emotionally and physically relaxed. Hypnotherapy will create a more calm and relaxed birthing experience, because the tools will help you to focus internally on the task at hand and shut out unwanted disruptions. Join me in combining information, tools and techniques to ensure a physical and mental preparation that is so important for releasing fear and tension and as a result you can achieve your goal of having a calm, positive birthing experience.

Off to the hospital in labour 🚗 and thinking 🤔… what do I need to help with comfort and staying in the zone? Because I get it… the thought of a car ride in active labour can make a you feel a bit nervous 🥺
⠀⠀
👇So here’s a checklist of things to have ready for your journey that might help you cope better, feel more comfortable and keep you in the zone:

✅ Firstly a towel to sit on for a bit more comfort and also just in case your waters release
✅ Or even better, pregnancy/disposable underwear for any bodily fluids. Partum Panties are awesome and the best for postpartum bleeding 👌
✅ Your pillow. The scent from your pillow will help you feel more safe and secure
✅ Face washer for your forehead and neck
✅ Wheat bag/heat pack to ease those intense back sensations
✅ Eye mask. This helps you to release your melatonin (dark hormone), and also cuts out distraction
✅ Bottle of water. Keep hydrated. And if you vomit, having some water to rinse after will be much needed
✅ Earbuds. Listen to your Hypnobirthing Australia™ tracks or calming birth music to keep you in the zone
✅ Essential Oil. This works great to relax you, especially if you’ve conditioned yourself to relax to that scent
✅ Bucket. Like I said above 👆 you might throw up and this will mean you’re well prepared👌

Hope this helps in your labour 🤗

You don’t NEED to have an injection to birth your placenta… if there are no special circumstances or risk factors, waiting for your placenta to be born naturally, known as a hands-off approach, is a safe option and a really positive experience for both mum and baby.

It’s important to be informed about approaches to your care, which could be:

1️⃣ Active management (‘hands-on’ approach), which consists of being given syntocinon, clamping cord, & the placenta is usually pulled out using controlled cord traction.
2️⃣ Expected management (‘hands-off’ approach), waiting for the placenta to detach on it’s own by holding baby and stimulating the release of oxytocin… see below for ways to help facilitate a natural placenta delivery

🤓 Definitely discuss your choices with your care provider so you can be informed about what approach is going to be best for you.

If you’re hoping for a ‘hands-off’ approach, then you need to know how to support the process & work with your body, rather than against it 💪

🌟 Here’s some ways to support a physiological third stage (Expected management):

🧡 Keep lights dim… melatonin + oxytocin = uterine surges
🧡 Stay warm
🧡 Undisturbed, calm environment
🧡 Avoid unnecessary chatter
🧡 Skin-to-skin with baby
🧡 Let baby breastfeed or attempt the breast crawl
🧡 Breathe in baby’s scent - oxytocin boost
🧡 Upright positioning
🧡 Use your hypnobirthing breathing to bear down

Your body knows what to do, you just need to know how to support the process 💪

🎥 Great animation 👍 Was your baby breech? Breech is just another variation of normal.

It’s such a shame, though, that fewer and fewer providers are willing (or trained) to support vaginal breech birth 😔

12 and a half years ago, I had to fight for my vaginal breech birth. It wasn’t an easy road, but back then, the hospital did still support this option.

Now, I’ve supported couples through my Hypnobirthing Australia™ courses - birthing at that same hospital - who’ve been turned away and had to transfer elsewhere just to be given the chance of a vaginal breech birth.

It just feels like we’re going backwards in skill when it comes to breech, which is really sad, because every birth journey deserves to be honoured with options and support.

I really wish more providers would learn the skills to offer vaginal breech birth when that’s what families choose.

My own breech birth story was published in ‘Breech Without Border’s A Guide to Physiological Breech Birth’, which is helping educate more care providers around the world on evidence, best practices and the mechanisms of breech.

I truly hope breech birth doesn’t become a dying art form.

“I had the feeling of wanting to bear down… and honestly 10 minutes after I got into the water our little baby boy was here.” This is Lauren’s Hypnobirthing Journey with Baby Cruz 🥹

I supported Lauren and Dan for their first hypnobirthing journey… and now I’ve had the absolute pleasure of taking them through the Hypnobirthing Australia™ Refresher course for baby number two ❤️

Lauren has written a beautiful birth story. She shares so many great tips and insights, like:
👉 staying calm at home for as long as possible
👉 ways of distracting in early labour by spending time with family and surrounded by love
👉 managing labour with a toddler
👉 having great support
👉 having a doula
👉 making raw noises and recognising signs of transition
👉 navigating the arrival at hospital
👉 making informed decisions
👉 MGP midwife advocating for mum’s preferences
👉 Positions
👉 experiencing the natural expulsive reflex
👉 physiological 3rd stage (placenta delivery)…

And then in Lauren’s words: “I had the feeling of wanting to bear down… and honestly 10 minutes after I got into the water our little baby boy was here.”

Aww… so beautiful! And couldn’t be happier for them 🥰

Our Story

Hi, I’m Kate and I’m a certified Hypnobirthing Australia™ Practitioner and a Childbirth Educator (HPCE) in the North Gold Coast region.

I had two calm, positive births using hypnobirthing techniques - one of which was a birth in hospital and the other was an unassisted, accidental, breech, home birth. Hypnobirthing was the reason my husband and I were able to make the decisions that were right for us and also cope with the pressure of the special circumstances in the lead up to the birth of my son. Since then I have been inspired to educate and support other couples so they too can be informed and understand their rights as birthing parents to have a wonderful birth experience with no regrets. Click here to view my birth story. The ‘hypno’ in hypnobirthing refers to the use of hypnotherapy in the course and this is a great tool that helps you to release fear and tension and change preconceived, negative thoughts and encourages a positive mindset, self-confidence and awareness. Hypnosis sounds a bit ‘woo woo’ ; ) but it’s just a process like meditation or deep relaxation - you are conscious and awake, although show signs of being emotionally and physically relaxed. Hypnotherapy will create a more calm and relaxed birthing experience, because the tools will help you to focus internally on the task at hand and shut out unwanted disruptions. So come and join me in combining information, tools and techniques to ensure a physical and mental preparation that is so important for releasing fear and tension and as a result you can achieve your goal of having a calm, positive birthing experience. You won’t regret it! Head over to my website www.positivelyhypnobirthing.com.au and checkout course dates that will suit you and let’s get you started on this amazing journey.
