He only began competitive track at 40, building decades of strength, speed, and conditioning to defy age norms.

Masters athletics showcases serious competitors aged 35 +, and Kish’s performance, when age-graded, rivals elite younger sprinters.

His flawless ex*****on highlights the value of consistent training, mobility, recovery, and progressive challenges.

His story proves it’s never too late to start and more insights await in the full article.

Have you hear of the rule of thirds?

As thousands of women are entering the weights room and adding specific interval training to the mix, it’s important to understand the rule of thirds.

Here is what it means:

“The “rule of thirds” in the context of workout planning, popularized by Olympian Alexi Pappas, suggests that during a training period, you should expect to feel good, okay, and crappy (or perform poorly) roughly a third of the time. This framework helps to normalize and accept the ups and downs of training, encouraging persistence even during challenging periods.”

You will never crush every single workout, especially if you are a midlife female. We generally demand more recovery than we did in our 20’s.

What we have learned from working with over 15,000 women is that there is a strong desire to want to hit every workout with maximum ability and effort. And when they don’t, there is a sense of shame and defeat that accompany these poor workouts. This is part of the growth process. Embrace and accept it!

Let’s normalize this concept and reaffirm to ourselves that this is part of ongoing progress. You can’t train hard every single day and expect to recover well and ace every single workout.

Take ownership and take recovery days when needed but also take planned easier days and don’t get bummed out when you don’t crush a workout. No one does. Not even Olympians ❤️

As says, “ We are training for life”. Our Power Happens programs are meant to be tailored as one program can’t cover every female. If you are in the weights room, you are already winning.

There are key differences in perimenopause and postmenopause training. If you're looking ahead and into 2026 and considering how best to train, let's chat...

Think of perimenopause as the transition phase. Hormones—especially estrogen and progesterone—start fluctuating, sometimes wildly. You might feel great one week, and off the next. Sleep, recovery, energy, and performance can all take a hit. Estrogen may spike or dip unexpectedly, impacting everything from insulin sensitivity to mood to muscle protein synthesis.

Postmenopause is what’s on the other side; it becomes the new baseline. Once you've gone 12 months without a period, you're considered postmenopausal, and your hormone levels are low and relatively stable. That stability helps (you shouldn’t have any more wild hormonal spikes or dips), but estrogen’s protective effects on muscle, metabolism, bone, and brain are diminished.

In short:
- Perimenopause can be unpredictable and reactive. You need consistency and structure.
- Postmenopause is steadier and more controlled. You need stimulus and support.

Training: Start Where You Are
I’m often asked about the differences in how to train optimally during peri- and postmenopause, and I’ll cover that in more detail below. Before we get into specifics, however, I want to be abundantly clear: I recognize that not all women are starting from the same place. What you need depends on your activity level—not just your hormones.

Consistency in exercise does more than build muscle—it boosts mental clarity. Studies reveal that regular physical activity can help the brain process and even forget traumatic memories. This means that your workouts are doing more than just strengthening your body; they’re healing your mind too. The act of pushing yourself physically helps you break free from past struggles and creates space for mental peace.

Every time you hit the gym, you’re taking control of your life in more ways than one. Exercise isn't just about the numbers on a scale or lifting heavier weights—it’s about giving your brain the freedom it deserves. The brain, just like the body, responds to regular care and challenge. Working out helps you reset, recalibrate, and grow stronger both inside and out.

Never underestimate the power of consistent training. Not only will you see physical gains, but your mental state will improve as well. So, embrace every rep, knowing that you’re investing in more than just muscles—you’re building mental strength that will carry you through life's toughest moments. 💪🧠

A new study suggests that the way most runners think about forward lean may actually be holding them back.

Researchers found that an upright posture or very slight forward lean can improve running efficiency by up to 8%, compared to an exaggerated lean.

Pushing too far forward increases muscle activation and metabolic cost, making each stride more tiring than necessary.

This simple adjustment could help runners conserve energy, maintain pace longer, and potentially shave minutes off their runs.

The full article breaks down the science, biomechanics, and practical ways to apply it.

Our Story

At My Vitality Physio, we focus on wellness and improving functional capacity and performance for everyone in the Gold Coast community.

Many people merely accept their physical pain without realising that something can be done to improve their quality of life. We don’t just want our patients to live in pain and just try to get by; we want them to really live and love life!

The vision of My Vitality is to establish a thriving wellness community on the Gold Coast, through helping people to become the best they can be and to continue to perform to the best of their ability without breaking down. This requires patience, persistence and the belief that you can improve.

We believe that it is imperative to look deeper into the causes of the pain to improve physically and psychologically. Our experienced practitioners are experts in understanding how our bodies work and what causes pain. They are inspired every day to help each patient live at a high level of performance and feel great.
