A sprinkle of dance-specific strength to finish our body conditioning session ✨
So what does a Dance Mechanic conditioning class actually involve?
The groundwork is laid before the session even begins. As a physiotherapist, my role isn’t just to prescribe exercises; it’s to observe movement first. I do this by watching dancers in a regular class, where they move naturally and without prompts. This gives far more insight than isolated movements performed in a clinic setting.
From there, I design a conditioning plan tailored to the needs of the dancers, always aligned with the teacher’s technical and artistic goals.
My approach blends Pilates-based control with functional strength training, including resistance (e.g. bands, dumbbells or kettlebells). Each session is carefully structured, beginning with compound movements to build capacity in key muscle groups, then progressing into dance-specific drills that refine and translate that strength directly into dance performance.
This is conditioning with purpose: structured by physiotherapy, contextualised by dance and designed to support both performance and longevity.
Interested in bringing the Dance Mechanic approach to your studio? I offer initial class observations and professional feedback to identify key focus areas before implementing a tailored conditioning program.
