Well what an epic 3 days we just had at the Noosa Triathlon π₯π₯
Race report π€£π€£
All 8 athletes across the line in style, a maiden voyage for 5 of them, lots of laughs, 2 cracking weather storms, lots of free protein bars and other yummy products, some awesome Noosa merch and to top it off....amazing results and even a π₯ bronze medal from Zoe to top it all off! ππ
With regards to the Battle of the Barwicks I am pleased to report the following:
Ryan took the honors in 2 hrs 39 as predicted as I didn't think I could hold off his fast run finish but I did get him in the swim and the bike ππ
Ryan is always the life of the party and as usual he turned it on. A solid swim (after not much swimming training at all π€£), a ride with his sister - probably telling jokes the whole way, and then π finished it off with a rippa of a run in 45 min....I really should've stolen one of his shoes or something π His words to me as we crossed paths on the run course "I'm coming for ya!" He didn't catch me but he was faster then me overall. Proud of you mate π
Kaitlin flew in Friday morning, and jumped in the van at the brissy airport as we drove on by headed for Noosa. Her butt hasn't been on a bike for over 3 yrs but she was up for the challenge. A solid swim from the marine biologist as expected always in the water, but she shocked us all by locking in on the bike and not only outriding her brother but also cleaning Mum up by a measley 5 seconds...a win is a win I guess....however, she then toasted her legs and ran 4 min slower then mum π𦡠bringing it home in 2 hrs 50. Mum did beat you Kaitlin but that ride....I'm super proud of you πͺπͺ That's how you do it Missy π Thank you from the bottom of my heart to agreeing to Mum's bucket list when Ryan said, "if Kaitlin does it, I'll do it" π
Zoe had her first race back in 6 mths following an injury in April and managed to earn herself a bronze medal in the 15-19 yrs. A great swim, followed by a solid bike. She yelled out to me on the bike and I could tell she was pumped! That 10km run was always going to be testy for any athlete coming back from injury but Zoe pushed through some cramping and managed to hold onto third place. πβ
This shows true grit to take on an Olympic distance first race back and also when you know you may not be totally prepared....super proud you Zoe β
Jac was brilliant... her first Olympic distance event, unchartered territory but I never doubted her for a minute. The heart of a lion and a grit that never gives up...she was ready and raring to go! She was first to set off with the first gifted age group start and just tackled each leg with determination. I momentarily saw her on the bike as we navigated the hill climb but Jedi Jen was locked in and kinda didn't see her π€£ however, coach could tell she was ok by the joyful sound of "Jen Jen" as I rolled by. Lol ..yep she sounded fine to me! π
Jac really knuckled down in the run, some leg pain threw her some curve balls but the universe needed to throw more at this woman if they were stopping her from the finish chute....Jac came ripping in...a proud moment for Coach Miyagi Jen! π€©π
Zach was ready for this challenge....the whole year had been a challenge and coach Jen and Mum and Dad weren't letting this one get away from him. He'd been up all night with anticipation and watching him line up for the rolling start next to his long time school training buddies Kaitlin and Ryan was just priceless. Elbow for elbow they belted towards the water...with a huge grin on their face... priceless π€£...the epitome of our A BODY 2 FIT squad. On the bike and Zach had a lil problem but he sorted it in true Zach style π Onto the run.... firmly instructed to "go out easy mate" ...I can see by the videos that he followed coaches instructions β
As Jac, Kaitlin and I stood at the finish line waiting for him I can honestly say that I've never seen anyone celebrate harder then this young man...Mum Jodie, yelling his name from way over the road....truly one of my most memorable coaching moments ever. You did it mate....you finished and you were proud of yourself! π€ Loved it π₯
Last but not least....the A BODY 2 FIT Old Boyz Team of John (swimmer) and Peter (cyclist and runner) took off in the heat of the day at 9:03am.
Great swim by John and I think by that stage the current had turned and they didn't have the assisted section on the way home πlol
I'm pretty sure that we would've all hated the push into the current on the way home so kudos to you John and also for swimming for the team ππ
As John passed to Peter.... Peter literally mounted the bike as both Ryan and I had just finished, so he had his own personal cheer squad right at the mount lineπ Then whilst we chilled, ate, drank, cooled ourselves in the creek in recovery, Peter rode! Then we set ourselves at the changeover point to cheer him into the run....as he came in off the bike it was about 11am...a nice hot 10km run it would be for the young fella π Kudos to Peter and John for a great effort finishing in a time of 3 hrs 7min in the heat of the day π₯π₯
As for Jedi Jen...well I had an absolute ball out there again! ATM I'm really enjoying racing like I never have before. π I'm not as fast as I was 5-10 years ago, but geez I just love being back in the competition, coaching and relishing in the sport. Overall I personally felt that I had a better race than expected off the back of World Champs 2 weeks ago. I was solid across all 3 legs, gave a pack of fellas a run for their money as I caught them all drafting along on the bike π€£ (the look of shock on their faces as I rolled on by was priceless) π± which then was followed with "Hey Boyz, what's doing? What's going on why you sitting back?" Their response, "oh it's going to be like that is it?" π€£π€£
Love a bit of banter π but all in all I also brought home a better run leg then world Champs finishing in an overall time of 2 hrs 46. I was 5th in both the LEGENDS category and my 55-59 yrs age group so pretty chuffed with that π₯°
Thanks to Jodie for being chief photographer whilst on course...lots of epic videos to come later π€£
So super proud of each and every one of us out there yesterday....
Who's coming back next year?
And...
Who else is joining us?
That's my last Olympic distance for 2025...now we move to Kingy Tri in 2 weeks time...enjoy the pics and LETS GO A BODY 2 FIT CREW...bringing on "TRI TOGETHER"
