I didn’t expect to leave a court safe room last week exchanging numbers and with a full heart.
There were two other woman, a mum and a young girl in her early 20s.You could see straight away this was all new for them.
The room was so silent at first. You could feel the nerves. The fear. The weight of why we were all there.
I could sense how nervous they were, this wasn't my first rodeo here so I started a conversation.
Within minutes we were talking like old friends.
Then somehow we ended up laughing so hard the staff had to come in and tell us to keep it down because the judge could hear us.
Three strangers finding light in a very dark place.
Domestic violence can make women feel incredibly isolated… but women also have this beautiful ability to find each other and lift each other up when it matters most.
Before we left, we exchanged numbers.
Three women walked into that room feeling the weight of the world.
Three women walked out feeling a little less alone.
Sometimes the journey back to yourself begins with the courage to realise no matter what you are going through you’re not alone.
Happy International Women’s Day to the women who bring light into dark places. 🌻
