Did you know that your body temperature drops between 1-3 degrees during your transition to and during sleep and you begin to warm back to normal when waking.

A couple of ways to help your transition to sleep is, if you have a sauna use the sauna right before bed, and if you don't have a hot shower just prior to going to bed. Now you may ask why would you heat yourself when you want your body temperature to go down? Well your body has an awesome ability to thermoregulate, when you get hot it cools you down, so when you heat yourself up prior to bed your body cools you down and continues to do so during your transition to sleep, which not only helps you get to sleep it also helps you stay asleep longer.

Light is one of the catalysts of your circadian rhythm as it helps regulate the bodies internal clock. As you can imagine, light when you are trying to sleep is not conducive to long or good quality sleep, so having your room as dark as possible during sleep is ideal.

Additional light can interrupt your sleep, a simple way to test this, is shut your eyes as tight as possible in a dark room and then have someone turn the light on and see if you can see any difference. As little as 15 seconds of light can effect your circadian rhythm.

Why not try and have a hot shower before you go to sleep, as your body cools it self it will help the transition to sleep.

Naturally the more energy we exert the more rest we need, so when we exercise the body recognises that we need more sleep and does it best to accommodate it.

There is a more scientific reason for better sleep after exercise and it is to do with how exercise helps to regulate the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol is elevated during moments of stress and with regular intense exercise your body is more able to regulate the hormone, higher cortisol levels have been linked with poor quality sleep.

So with regular exercise helping to regulate cortisol levels it inherently helps with your sleep.

Getting some sunlight first thing in the morning can help sync your circadian rhythm and your waking time, therefore starting the sleep process for later that night.

Doing this every day will give your body the signals it needs to regulate the hormone production related to the natural sleep process. Try this and let us know in the comments if this worked for you.
