These names connect our spaces to te ao Māori and to the tamariki and whānau we support every day.

7 News at Centre of Movement

Eliza and Jess were recently invited to Canberra by ESSA Australia to speak in Parliament about the role of exercise physiology and movement-based programs for children with ASD, GDD and other developmental conditions.
Their message was strongly received.

Today, 7 News visited the clinic to showcase their work and continue the conversation shining a spotlight on how movement-based intervention can support better outcomes for kids.

We’ll share the air date once it’s confirmed.

Children with Angelman syndrome commonly present with delayed motor milestones, gait variability, and challenges with coordination due to differences involving the UBE3A gene and downstream neuro-cerebellar pathways. These factors can influence how their bodies organise movement and respond to new motor tasks.

By working collaboratively and intentionally scaffolding Van’s sensory motor system, we help his brain form new pathways while keeping the experience playful and safe. Cat offered bubbles and calm, steady presence to support engagement and regulation while Van explored unfamiliar movement patterns.

It truly takes a village and every movement builds confidence, connection, and capacity.

Today Eliza our Exercise Physiologist, attended a Parliamentary Hearing in Canberra for the Thriving Kids initiative alongside Jess, mum to the wonderful Valentino.

The Thriving Kids proposal is exploring a new pathway of supports for young children with developmental delay or autism. As these national conversations unfold, many families and clinicians have expressed concern that movement-based therapies may be undervalued, despite strong evidence for their role in supporting physical development, participation, emotional regulation and quality of life.

It’s necessary to see passionate parents and allied-health professionals showing up, lending their lived experience and clinical lens to ensure exercise physiology and movement remain firmly recognised as essential supports for children.

This kind of advocacy and community, collaboration and care is how real change happens. So proud team.
