HOMESTEAD, FL- many residents are facing losing their homes because their property taxes have tripled their monthly payment on their escrow accounts.

Many were victims of the old bait and switch at the closing table, where most of the residents were approved for a low monthly payment to purchase their home. But what they didn’t know is these loan officers leveraged the existing property taxes of the seller or new homes with no tax roll the year prior, which in most cases was very low.

In one case a resident from Keys Gate said their realtor (works with internal mortgage broker) quoted her with the existing property taxes of the seller, of course they qualified because if the realtor and mortgage broker followed Regulation Z (tell Z Truth) as per most banking policies, most buyers won’t qualify with the new tax bill based on the purchase price the following year.

But in most cases once it’s closed it’s no longer the realtor or mortgage brokers problem for the buyer signed the documents stating you were informed of the sticker price shock pending.

Another resident of Keys Gate for 20 years, got divorced and did a court ordered QCD (Quick claim Deed) removing the spouse in September 2025, the resident as per Miami Dade county policy should have been grand fathered in with the existing property tax bill of $2800, but Tomas Regalados office billed the mortgage company for over $10,000 causing l a severe shortage to their escrow account.

According to the Miami Dade Property Appraiser Office, they told the resident sorry just pay it and we will send the mortgage company the new revised tax bill in August 2026 and hopefully they give you your money back, the resident submitted all documentation required to prove they also lived there for all those years.

Now the resident is faced with losing their home for this Miami Dade county error.

But meanwhile Homestead residents paid their inflated taxes: while some local schools are pending closure, pot holes on roads, crazy traffic, un synchronized lights at bus ways and now war and possibly picking up the tab on Alligator Alcatraz.

Now Republican termed out Governor De Santis wants to eliminate property taxes, but by then many will lose their homes, because they still need to make their escrow payments or be homeless.

In March 2026, many middle school students will receive their acceptance letters from magnet programs they applied for as they continue their education in both Middle and High school respectively.

Some local magnet schools in Homestead are pending the final decision to ( Boundary Changes) from the Miami Dade school board members :

Proposals - (according to sources)

Air Base K8 (Upper Academy 6-8) proposed to relocate the program to Mandarin Lakes K8, providing students wait listed for years a better chance of being accepted into its academic excellence program, potentially accepting roughly (1400 students).
Parents and teachers of Air Base K8 have shared their disapproval of the recommended boundary changes by the school board.
Most parents would prefer to leave its existing education model alone to continue its current excellence in education for the 20 plus years.
Students from Mandarin lakes K8 will eventually be moved to other local schools if not accepted into the Air Base K8 (Upper Academy)

CIE- (Center for International Education) could face similar changes, but will increase enrollment opportunities by replacing magnet programs offered at South Dade Senior and Homestead Senior. The magnet programs will be offered at CIE and help reduce the overcrowding classrooms and hallways at both South Dade and Homestead senior.

South Dade High- could lose magnet programs and magnet students to CIE (Center for International Education) with changes to boundaries. Could potentially lose their A rating recently obtained at the beginning of the 2025 - 2026 school year.

Homestead High School- could lose magnet programs and magnet students to CIE (Center for International Education) with changes to boundaries. Could potentially lose their B rating recently obtained at the beginning of the 2025 - 2026 school year.

We asked Luisa Santos of the potential changes to the Homestead magnet schools, she responded with :

“Nothing is confirmed as we are part of the first part of the process where different options get discussed. There will be future community meetings as we shape the process with family, staff, and community feedback.”

Homestead, FL- Amazon announced today that it is closing its warehouse HUB in Homestead, located near Air Base K8.

The move putting 1000 jobs in jeopardy and in the unemployment line.

It also stated it plans to re-open in 2028 after upgrades, supposedly..

Makes you wonder what they will be opening there temporarily for the next 2 years… wrong answers only?

Bad News - Gas increased almost $1 dollar a gallon in just 3 days in Homestead.

LOS ANGELES - Federal authorities descended upon multiple. Wednesday morning, executing search warrants at both the primary Los Angeles Unified School District of Superintendent Alberto Carvalho.

TH exclusive investigative reporting:

Back in 2020, TH reported on the back then Superintendent of Miami Dade County Public Schools before he bounced for Los Angeles:

“Recognition / donations over 1.5 million dollars will get you no bid contracts, right Mr. Carvalho ?

A formal investigation is underway into a donation made to the foundation run by Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho.

That donation was from the company that won the no-bid contract for the virtual school platform that was scrapped last week after a tumultuous start to the new school year.

The county inspector general notified the school board of the probe into the $1.57 million donation by K12 Inc., which amounts to about a tenth of the $15 million contract.

That contract was suspended after the failed start of the online school year.

Carvalho responded: “This is not being processed as payroll. It does not require collective bargaining, and since the very beginning, it is a recognition slash donation.”

Superintendent Carvalho is not having a good 2020 school year.”

We are not saying it’s connected a this time but …

Carvalho has served as the superintendent of LAUSD since February 2022 and was recently re-appointed to the position in September 2025.

Before moving to Los Angeles, he spent 14 years leading Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
