Psychic Safety for Healers and Energy Workers: How to Protect Yourself and Your Clients While Doing Spiritual Work
When energy work is performed responsibly, it can bring profound healing, clarity, and transformation. However, it’s also extremely important to understand that because energy work involves opening intuitive and subtle perception, it also requires strong psychic protection, spiritual hygiene and boundaries. This is NOT about fear. Quite the opposite, in fact. It is about safety, integrity and professionalism.
Whenever you do any form of energy work, whether it’s healing work, grid-work, hypnosis, akashic records readings, and even just tarot and astrology readings, it’s EXTREMELY important to do psychic protection first. When you open an energetic space, you are not just connecting to light beings. You are creating a doorway. And like any sacred doorway, it must be protected, contained, and consciously guarded. Otherwise, you are putting yourself AND your clients at risk.
How so? Well, as soon as you set an intention to bring energy and information through, you are opening portals. You are also calling attention to yourself energetically. Energy work is very powerful! Healers, empaths, highly-intuitive people, and energy workers are often deeply empathetic and naturally sensitive to the spiritual energies and other realms that exist around us at all times. That sensitivity is a gift, but without psychic protection and upkept spiritual hygiene, energy work can also create major vulnerability. Safe sessions begin long before the first word is even spoken.
Self-Protection is always essential!
Before any session begins, the practitioner should first ground their energy. Go for a walk outdoors barefoot, visualize roots growing out of your chakras, etc. Then they can visualize their own form of psychic protection around themselves, in order to protect their etheric field. You can visualize golden light, suits of armor, invisibility cloaks, or even a cube of ‘one way glass’ so you can see out but nobody else can see whats inside. The more clever and consistent you are, the more protected you will be, and the more confident you will feel in your protection. This should be done every morning, and every night before bed. (This isn't just important for energy workers, it’s important for all humans!)
Creating a Safe, Contained Energetic Space:
Consciously create a sealed energetic environment. This can be done through intention, visualization, or simple spoken declaration.
A good example:
“This space is energetically sealed. Only beings of the highest light and serving the highest good of humanity are welcome in this space.”
When this boundary is set clearly, it functions like an energetic filter or barrier. It expresses your intentions and free-will, but it also strengthens your mental focus and stabilizes the nervous system, which is important for both the practitioner and client.
Practitioner Spiritual Hygiene Is Non-Negotiable!
Above all, it's very important to take care of your own needs first. You cannot pour from an empty cup!
Some of the big mistakes new energy workers make is:
* Working while fatigued
* Lack of grounding
* Emotional bleed-through from clients (allowing emotional cords to form with their clients)
* Unprocessed trauma (unhealed healers)
* Weak personal boundaries.
True protection starts with the physical body. A grounded, hydrated, well regulated practitioner is far more resilient than one who is operating from fear or depletion.
Essential daily practices include:
* Breath-based grounding exercises and grounding visualizations
* Self-awareness through self check-ins. (Are your own needs being met?)
* Self-clearing after sessions. (Not just clearing the space after each client but doing a self-clearing on the healer too)
* Rest and recovery. Knowing your limits so you don't burn out.
* Refusing to work when energetically compromised.
How to Set Energetic Boundaries Safely and Effectively Before a Session:
A safe and effective boundary declaration sounds like:
“Only energies of the highest light and serving the highest good of humanity may interact within this session space.”
Make this declaration when you begin your session.
Before you begin, you must also check your own sovereignty, and validate your soul guides as authentic. This must be done before every single session.
Collect your energy, ground yourself, and call in your Higher-Self. Ask the Higher-self 3 times, "Am I sovereign"?
Every time you ask, you should receive an immediate "YES" in your head. If you do hear YES, 3 times, then you are very likely to be sovereign. (Meaning your free-will is not compromised by dark entities)
If you don't receive a YES right away, or if you don't hear anything at all, then its important to call in your soul guides and ask them to do a self-clearing, and to remove anything from you that is obstructing your sovereignty. Then do the check again, and see if you now get 3 immediate 'Yes'. (If you now get a clear and concise answer, you have successfully self-cleared! If you do not, then I recommend booking an SRT clearing..) Can entities lie? YES, unfortunately they can. Thats why strong discernment and a strong connection to your team is so important. They can tell a lie, but they cannot fake a vibration. With strong discernment, you can feel the vibration of a lie.
Once you have confirmed your sovereignty, call your soul guides in, and get a sense of their energy, (the more you connect to your spirit team, the more familiar their energy should be) and once you connect, always be sure to validate them. You do so in a very similar way as doing a sovereignty check, as you are now checking the sovereignty of your soul guides.
Ask them, "Are you of the Highest-Light and serving the Highest-Good of humanity?" Again, ask them 3 times. You should receive 3 immediate 'YES' from them too. If not, DO NOT conduct the session.
Once you're connected to your team, ask them to clear the space of anything that might compromise the session. Ask them to clear dark patches of negative energy, to close portals, to remove residual energies, etc.
It's also extremely important to clear the energy of the space after every client. Can you imagine a doctor that doesn't wash their hands after each client? It's the same idea with a healer who doesn't clear themselves and their space. You are literally just going to pass one clients bad juju to another.
Signs a Session Needs to Be Paused -
Professional practitioners stop sessions when the energy becomes unstable or if the clients safety is being called into question. Safety and integrity matters far more than completion of the session.
Watch out for:
* Sudden pain or heavy nausea that just 'appears'.
* Unexplained fatigue or slurred speech.
* Heavy pressure sensations in the head or chest.
* Dark, intrusive thoughts.
* Panic attacks without logical cause.
If these emerge, pause the session immediately.
A safe reset protocol:
1. Stop the session.
2. Re-ground both parties. (If you cannot ground yourself, this is a major red flag that the session is compromised)
3. Slow the breath/ ask the client do calming breathing exercises.
4. Re-state the energetic boundaries aloud. Call in backup from your spirit team.
5. Call back everyones energy, cut cords, and guide their awareness fully back into the body.
This helps to prevent energetic overwhelm and psychological distress during sessions.
The Importance of Proper Closure during a Session:
More problems occur during poor session closure than during the work itself.
Always:
* Thank the soul guides and ask them to disconnect from the client.
* Set the intention to close the energetic space, including all portals.
* Call all energy back to self. Not just the client, but also the practitioner.
*Cut all unnecessary energetic cords.
* Physically move your body afterwards. Stretch, shake off the energies, etc.
* Cleanse the space. Wash your hands, smudge the space, etc.
A Note on “Psychic Attacks”
Not every sensation is an attack. Sometimes emotional release can be very powerful, thus triggering a very strong emotional reaction. Have strong discernment, and trust your intuition. If something seems 'off' it probably is. But don't respond in fear just because something seems strange, as energy work often leads to surprises!
Yes, head and chest pain is a red flag for psychic attack but it could also be the result of an energy blockage in the chakras, for example. So it's important not to panic. Strong practitioners do not work from fear. They work from self-confidence and trust in their spirit team. Fear creates blockages and attracts entities. Calm does the opposite; so always do your best to stay calm.
Final Statement: On occasion, I've had a few practitioners laugh this off or even call me 'fear-based' for sharing this knowledge. It reminds me of the doctors who used to laugh about how germs were pure nonsense just because they are invisible to the naked eye. Think of how many lives could have been saved had they taken the information seriously rather than disavowing it..
So in closing, it's important to express that psychic protection is not fear based and it's not rooted in paranoia. It is rooted in safety, integrity and professionalism. Just as a surgeon would never enter an operating room without sterilizing their tools, a healer should never enter a session without preparing their energy and their space. Your intuition is powerful, but your boundaries are what make your work safe.
When you work with integrity, groundedness, and strong spiritual hygiene, you are not operating from fear — you are operating from sovereignty. And a confident, well educated, sovereign healer, is deeply difficult for entities to compromise.
