We would like to inform our patients that after six years of dedicated service to the Googong community, Dr. Yemisi is leaving our practice (last day Friday 27 March).

Dr. Yemisi has provided compassionate and high-quality care to many patients and families during her time with us, and she will be greatly missed by both our team and the community.

She will be moving closer to home at Molonglo Valley Medical Centre in Coombs, ACT, where she will continue to care for patients.

If patients wish to continue seeing Dr. Yemisi for their care, please contact our reception team and we will be happy to arrange for a copy of your medical record to be transferred to her new practice.

Patients who prefer to remain with our clinic are welcome to book with one of our other doctors, and our reception team will be happy to assist with arranging ongoing care.

We sincerely thank Dr. Yemisi for her contribution to the health and wellbeing of our community and wish her every success in this next chapter.

Hello Googong families ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ,

Itโ€™s hard to believe itโ€™s almost been a month since the kids headed back to school ๐Ÿซ! As we settle into our routines, here are a few health tips to keep our little ones thriving:

โ€ข Hand Hygiene ๐Ÿ‘: Encourage regular handwashing to fend off germs โ€“ especially after play and before meals.
โ€ข Nutritious Meals ๐ŸŽ: A balanced diet fuels busy school days. Sneak in extra fruits and veggies where you can!
โ€ข Hydration ๐Ÿ’ง: With the summer warmth still on, remind your kids to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
โ€ข Sleep Routine ๐Ÿ˜ด: A consistent sleep schedule helps with energy levels and overall well-being.
โ€ข Stay Active ๐Ÿคธ: Whether itโ€™s a family walk or a fun play session, regular exercise is key.
โ€ข Watch for Signs ๐Ÿ”: If your child isnโ€™t feeling well or shows unusual symptoms, it might be best to get them checked by a GP.

Our team at Googong Family Practice is here to support you and your family. Letโ€™s work together to ensure a healthy, happy school year! ๐ŸŒŸ

๐ŸŽ† Happy New Year from Googong Family Practice! ๐ŸŽ†

As we get ready to ring in 2025, weโ€™re sending our best wishes to all our wonderful patients and their families for a year filled with health, happiness, and success! ๐Ÿ’™ Thank you for letting us be a part of your journey โ€“ weโ€™re excited to continue caring for you and your loved ones in the year ahead.

For those planning to celebrate with a toast or two, here are some proactive tips to help avoid a hangover:
๐Ÿฅ˜ Eat before you drink: A hearty meal with healthy fats, protein, and carbs slows alcohol absorption.
๐Ÿ’ง Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate: Drink water throughout the day and alternate with water while drinking alcohol.
๐Ÿท Choose wisely: Clear spirits like vodka or gin tend to cause fewer hangover symptoms than darker drinks like whiskey or red wine.
๐Ÿข Pace yourself: Sip slowly and set a reasonable limit to give your body time to process the alcohol.

The best hangover cure is prevention, so celebrate responsibly and take care of yourself! ๐Ÿฅ‚

Hereโ€™s to a happy and healthy 2025 โ€“ we canโ€™t wait to see you in the new year! ๐ŸŽ‰

With warm regards,
The Googong Family Practice Team

๐Ÿ Watch Out, Snakes Are About! ๐Ÿ

As the weather warms up, itโ€™s the season when snakes become more active in Australia. Whether you're exploring the bush, tending your garden, or even in our beautiful parks, it's important to stay alert and know what to do in case of a snake bite.

Here are some essential first aid tips to keep in mind:

1๏ธโƒฃ Stay Calm and Still
If bitten, try to remain as calm as possible. Movement can spread venom more quickly through your body.

2๏ธโƒฃ Call for Help
Dial 000 immediately for emergency assistance. Time is critical with snake bites.

3๏ธโƒฃ Do NOT Wash the Bite Area
Avoid washing or sucking the bite. The venom on the skin can help identify the type of snake for proper treatment.

4๏ธโƒฃ Apply a Pressure Immobilisation Bandage
Use a firm bandage to wrap the limb above and below the bite. Start from the bite site and work upwards.
Keep the limb still and immobilised using a splint or sling if possible.

5๏ธโƒฃ Keep the Victim Still
Limit their movement to slow the venom's spread.

6๏ธโƒฃ Do NOT Attempt to Catch the Snake
Focus on first aid and getting medical helpโ€”do not risk another bite.

๐Ÿ’ก Prevention is Key

Wear long pants and boots in snake-prone areas. Keep yards tidy and free of debris.
Be cautious near water or warm rocks where snakes may bask.

If you are concerned about a snake on your property you can call Wildcare for advice on 02 6299 1966.

Stay safe Googong! ๐ŸŒฟ
