International Women’s Day 🤍

Today feels like a gentle reminder to honour the women around us.

The mothers doing their best.
The women quietly holding families together.
The friends who show up.
The business owners taking brave steps.
The daughters growing into themselves.
The grandmothers who lead with wisdom and grace.

In practice, I’m constantly reminded how much women carry — physically, emotionally, mentally — and how important it is that they feel supported, heard and cared for in every season of life.

I feel incredibly grateful to care for so many strong, capable women in our community, and work alongside women who inspire, support, and are all heart. And at home, I’m grateful to be raising boys who see and respect the strength and compassion of the women around them.

Today isn’t just about celebration — it’s about appreciation.

To every woman doing her best in this season of life… you are amazing! 🤍

Happy International Women’s Day!

Tomorrow is International Women’s Day.

Dr Christine and Dr Hayley feel very lucky to work in a profession where we can support so many incredible women — from pregnancy and postpartum through to the everyday physical and mental load many women carry.

We’re grateful to care for the women in our community.

This Sunday is International Women’s Day and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing content that reflects some of the health patterns we commonly see in women — from stress and mental load to hormonal and physical changes across different life stages.

While these topics apply to everyone, many women are balancing sustained demands across work, caregiving and home life.

Today we’re starting with the nervous system — specifically sympathetic dominance.

You may have heard this described as being stuck in “fight or flight mode.”

Sympathetic dominance occurs when the body spends prolonged periods in protective activation rather than restorative states. Over time, this can affect sleep, energy, muscle tension, digestion and stress tolerance.

If you often feel wired but exhausted, mentally “on” even when you want to switch off, or easily overwhelmed, your nervous system may be working harder than it needs to.

The encouraging part? This pattern is common — and it is changeable.

With consistent, appropriate inputs, the nervous system can shift toward better regulation, improved recovery and greater resilience.

February meltdowns are real — and for many families, they show up right around now.

After the excitement and flexibility of summer holidays, children suddenly shift into early mornings, school expectations, social demands, and busy routines. That’s a huge adjustment for a developing nervous system.

Children don’t always have the words to say “this feels like too much,” so their bodies often communicate through big emotions, clinginess, sleep changes, or behaviour shifts.

Many kids also hold it together all day at school, then release at home — not because they’re being difficult, but because home is where they feel safest to unwind and regulate.

Big emotions during this time usually aren’t a sign something is wrong. They’re often a sign that a child’s nervous system needs a little extra support, connection, and calm.

💛 Our latest blog explains why February can feel so overwhelming for kids — and shares gentle ways to support their nervous systems as they adjust.

Listening to your body sounds simple… but in reality, it’s a skill — and often a hard one to learn.

Most of us are really good at pushing through. We ignore small aches, explain away fatigue, or tell ourselves tightness is “just normal.” But our bodies are constantly communicating with us — the challenge is learning to listen before whispers turn into shouts.

Sometimes that communication looks like small imbalances. One side of your body always feels tighter than the other. A muscle that never quite relaxes. Discomfort that keeps returning in the same spot no matter how much you stretch or rest. These are often early signs your body is compensating or asking for support.

Energy can be another important clue. If you feel tired even when you’re sleeping well, or constantly reach for coffee or sugar just to get through the day, your nervous system may be stuck in a “fight or flight” state — prioritising survival over rest, repair and recovery.

This month, as part of my Feel Good February challenge of moving every day, I’ve been even more aware of how important it is to check in with my body. Years ago, I learned this the hard way after pushing through months of bootcamp training until my back finally seized and forced me to stop. It was a powerful reminder that awareness is what keeps us healthy — not just effort.

Building body awareness doesn’t have to be complicated. Often it starts with small moments — pausing to breathe, noticing posture, checking whether movement feels balanced, and trusting that gut feeling when something doesn’t feel right.

✨ Our latest blog explores simple ways to tune into your body, recognise early signs of imbalance, and support your nervous system before small niggles become bigger issues.

If this resonates, it’s well worth a read.

How is your child settling into school? The first few weeks bring big changes — new routines, more sitting and higher demands on growing bodies and nervous systems. Things like posture, movement, balance and regulation can all influence how easily kids settle into the school day. A back-to-school chiropractic check can help support a smoother transition.
