Emotional regulation is the ability to recognise, manage, and recover from emotional responses.
It is not something you’re born “good” or “bad” at, but it’s a learned skill.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) focuses on:
• Identifying triggers
• Teaching coping and communication strategies
• Building routines that reduce emotional overload
• Supporting carers with consistent responses

PBS does not use punishment or restrictive approaches.

“Can do”: physically possible
“Should do”: safe, sustainable, and energy-efficient

For example, someone may be able to bend to the floor, but doing so repeatedly may increase fall risk or pain.
OTs assess task safety, body mechanics, and fatigue levels to determine better ways to complete tasks, not just whether they’re possible.
