Wonderful to see IVF testing for genetic disorders added to Medicare from Nov 1. This will help eligible couples or individuals who carry a serious genetic disorder now access a rebate on genetic testing of their embryos. We have not been advised of the rebate amount as yet, but our accounts team is hoping this information will be available in the next couple of days.

From next month, Australians going through IVF will be able to claim a Medicare rebate for pre-implantation genetic testing to help prevent passing serious genetic disorders onto their child.

Our consent forms are now being sent out via Docusign - an online digital signing platform. This is going to make receiving consent forms and completing them a lot quicker. Consents will be sent separately to patients' and partners' email addresses. For security, a code is also sent to the receiver's mobile number. Please let us know if there are any changes to your email address or mobile number as these will need to be kept up to date at all times.

⚠⚠COVID UPDATE ⚠⚠

You may have already heard about the NSW Health decision to stop all non-urgent elective surgery at major private hospitals from 23 August 2021.

At this stage we have been told we are able to continue with treatment at our clinic. If you are currently on a cycle please continue as per your plan.

Please note we have to take things day by day at the moment with the current Covid situation but will update you on our social media pages if things do change.

⚠⚠ Covid-19 Latest Update ⚠⚠

Latest guidelines for our clinic

πŸ’™ Patients from the Central Coast and Sydney still need to have a weekly negative covid test and this needs to be within a 72-hour timeframe before entering Lingard Hospital.

πŸ’™ Proof of negative test (screenshot) will need to be emailed to the clinic to: newcastle.nurses@genea.com.au

πŸ’™ Newcastle and Hunter patients do not need a covid test at this time unless they have been to exposure sites, had contact with anyone from Sydney or Central Coast, or have Covid symptoms.

πŸ’™ No entry to the clinic for Casual or Close contacts or anyone with Covid symptoms

πŸ’™ Our Ovulation Tracking Bulk Billed service is not operating at the moment

πŸ’™ Only the person who is having treatment is allowed into Lingard Hospital and Genea Newcastle, so no partners, children or support persons at this time. This includes people attending for blood tests, ultrasounds scans, egg collections, embryo transfers, semen analysis, commencement of injections or any other appointments/procedures at our clinic.

In the event that we are shutdown with short notice due to a positive case linked to our clinic or Lingard Hospital the following will occur:

πŸ’™ All embryos will be frozen & FET will occur when we re-open

πŸ’™ Patients currently on a cycle and close to egg collection will be given the choice to go to either our Genea Sydney (Kent Street) or Norwest clinics for their egg collection

πŸ’™ Patients wanting to start a new cycle will be added to a waiting list

Genea Newcastle will continue to follow strict social distancing requirements and follow a strict cleaning procedure within our clinic and reception rooms, though we also need you to do your part.

πŸ’™ Hand sanitiser is to be used by all patients before and after your visit
πŸ’™ Mask wearing is mandatory
πŸ’™ Signing in and out of the clinic via the Service NSW app is mandatory

If you have been in contact with anyone from Sydney, Central Coast, or any of the emerging exposure sites in Newcastle and Hunter region please get tested and isolate until you receive your results. πŸ’™ πŸ’™
