For over 65 years, St John of God Accord has worked to make a difference in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.

We are a values-based organisation that puts you, your goals and aspirations at the centre of what we do. Our caregivers are professional and skilled and they take responsibility for all their interactions and relationships. You can access our offerings throughout all metropolitan regions of Melbourne - North, East, South, and West. We are a not-for-profit organisation, established in 1953 as a provider of intellectual disability support. We merged with our parent organisation St John of God Health Care in 2007.

Who loves bowling?
Our Glenroy Community Campus crew sure does! Last week, we hit the lanes and brought the energy — from epic strikes to some creative (and hilarious) bowling styles that deserve awards of their own.

There were high-fives, victory dances, and even a few dramatic poses after those perfect strikes (and near misses 😉). But most of all, there were smiles — big, bright, and absolutely contagious.

Because sometimes, the best moments aren’t about the score… they’re about the laughter, the connection, and the joy of being together.

Greyhounds racing, cheers echoing, and… Captain America dropping by for a surprise visit?
Now that’s how you turn a day at The Great Chase into a memory worth keeping.

Our Glenroy Community Campus had an absolute blast picking our favourite dogs, celebrating the winners, and meeting a real-life Avenger (yes, we’re still talking about it).

We came for the greyhounds. We left with memories… and a selfie with Captain America. 💙

Halloween at Accord got a little extra fun last week!

Joy looked like crooked costumes, carved pumpkins, and chocolate smudges nobody bothered to wipe away.

It reminded us of something simple: when people feel safe to be a little silly, a little loud, a little themselves — that’s when the magic happens.

Our house in Reservoir has had a fabulous refresh — widened hallways and front doors make moving around easier, sleek lino in the common areas keeps things smooth and stylish, and Michelle’s new sliding door gives her extra independence and comfort.⁠

Michelle says: “It’s easier for me to go to the kitchen because the carpet is gone and my wheelchair moves easier.”⁠

Nothing is more important than living in a place where you feel like yourself.

When Rohan knew it was time for a change after over 12 years in his previous residence, our team supported him to explore his options, identify the right fit, and match the lifestyle and environment he wanted.

Since moving, Rohan has been thriving, enjoying new freedoms and the independence that comes from being in a place that truly suits him - having access to his own room and bathroom, unlocked cupboards and doors. He thrives in cooking his own meals and doing the laundry.

Rohan’s story reminds us that it’s okay to let a good thing go — sometimes creating space for change is how we make room for something even bigger.
