To limit community transmission of COVID-19 and to keep the community safe from the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the ACT Government has reintroduced the mandatory use of face masks when in an indoor place from 11.59pm Tuesday 21 December 2021.

😷 Masks must be worn in all indoor settings other than a place of residence, from 11.59pm tonight.

These include:
✅ indoor retail settings
✅ public transport
✅ hospitality venues (except when seated, or eating or drinking)
✅ offices
✅ visitors and staff in a residential aged care facility

Mandatory mask wearing continues in settings where they were already mandated such as in airports and on planes.

At this stage, these requirements will be in place over the Christmas and New Year period and reviewed in January. However, should there be an important change in the COVID-19 situation in the ACT, these may be reviewed sooner if needed.

⚠️The ACT is entering a seven day lockdown from 5pm tonight, 12 August 2021 ⚠️

This is a result of a COVID-19 case being identified in the community and positive wastewater detections reported overnight.

The lockdown will remain in place until 5pm Thursday 19 August 2021.

You can only leave your house to:
• shop for essentials like groceries and medicine and supplies that are essential for personal needs or for vulnerable people
• obtain essential health care, including to undertake a COVID-19 test or receive a scheduled COVID-19 vaccination
• exercise outdoors for no more than one hour per day, with one other person, or your household group
• provide essential caregiving services
• undertake essential work.

Where possible, people should undertake these essential activities within their local region.

We’re strengthening our Greater Sydney travel restrictions to protect our community.

From 11.59pm tonight, 9 July, we will declare Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour as COVID-19 affected areas.

🛎️ ACT residents 🛎️
If you’re an ACT resident and leave one of these areas after 11:59pm tonight, you will be required to:
• complete an online exemption form within 24 hours prior to your arrival in the ACT
• quarantine immediately for 14 days upon your return to the ACT.

We will automatically grant ACT residents an exemption to enter the ACT and will support them to safely return to their homes.

🛎️ Non-ACT residents 🛎️
If you are a non-ACT resident coming from these areas, you can not enter the ACT unless you have an approved exemption before arriving.

We will only approve exemptions in exceptional circumstances. Even if your exemption is approved, you will still be required to quarantine in the ACT.

🛎️ Stay-at-home requirement 🛎️
If you are already in the ACT and are under our stay-at-home requirement, you will not be required to enter quarantine.

If you are not already in the ACT and leave Greater Sydney and surrounds prior to 11.59pm tonight, you must complete an online exemption form prior to entering the ACT. You will also be subject to the stay-at-home requirement and you will not be required to enter quarantine.

🛎️ Face masks 🛎️
While face masks will no longer be mandatory after 11:59pm tonight, 9 July, we encourage you to use face masks when physical distancing is not possible. However, you should be prepared for this advice to change on short notice.

🛎️ Travel between Greater Sydney and the ACT 🛎️
The COVID-19 situation in Greater Sydney is serious. We’d like to remind everyone that you should not be travelling between Greater Sydney and the ACT at this time.

We’re making changes to Check In CBR to help keep Canberra safe and strong.

From tomorrow, we will remove the 15 minute minimum time for checking in to businesses.

This means all people aged 16 years and older – including customers, patrons, staff and visitors – must check in upon entry, regardless of how long they are planning to be there.

As well, people will be required to use the Check In CBR app in more places.

Check In CBR is already mandatory for restricted businesses and venues. It will now become mandatory for:
• all retail settings, including supermarkets
• public transport, and
• taxi and rideshare transport facilities.

Businesses will have until 12:00pm on 15 July 2021 to implement the new requirements.

As the changes are rolled out over the next two weeks, you will progressively see more Check in CBR QR codes appearing in shops, supermarkets, buses, light rail and other retail and transport settings.

Please check in on entry to any premises registered for Check In CBR. On buses and light rail, you can check in once you are seated as there will be QR codes around the vehicle.

Check In CBR is an essential line of defence to help prevent COVID-19 transmission by supporting fast, effective contact tracing.
