Not all heel pain is created equal. That’s why two people with sore heels can need completely different treatments. The most well-known type is plantar fasciitis, irritation of the strong band of tissue that supports your arch. This often feels like a stabbing pain under the heel, especially first thing in the morning.

But plantar fasciitis isn’t the only culprit. Achilles tendinopathy can cause pain at the back of the heel, where the tendon attaches. Heel spurs, small bony growths, may contribute to discomfort, though often they’re a sign of ongoing strain rather than the main source of pain. Other conditions include bursitis, nerve entrapment, or even stress fractures.

Children can also experience a special type of heel pain known as Sever’s disease, linked to growth plate irritation during active years.

Understanding which type of heel pain you have is critical, because treatments vary. What works for plantar fasciitis might not help an Achilles issue, and could even make it worse. That’s where expert podiatry care makes the difference.

At Waikato Podiatry Clinic, we take a thorough approach to heel pain, combining clinical testing with years of experience. Once we know the exact cause, we can tailor treatment, from stretching and strengthening exercises, to orthotics, footwear advice, or shockwave therapy.

Heel pain doesn’t have to be a guessing game. With the right diagnosis, you can move from frustration to freedom.

Whatever your foot problem, you can get help right now. Contact us at Waikato Podiatry. https://waikatopodiatry.co.nz/

The Conadilly Canvas is a youth-led mural project shining a light on mental health right here in Gunnedah (a topic that needs SO much light and love, especially in regional areas). Entries close 19 September - and we’d love to see as many young people involved as possible.

✨ What’s it about?
Young people are invited to share their voice and creativity around the themes of mental health, belonging, connection and hope.

It doesn’t have to be “art” in the traditional sense - entries can be drawings, paintings, short writing pieces, or even edited videos.

🎨 Why enter?

• Winners will have their ideas brought to life in a 10-metre mural painted by artist Katie Louise Bigg in the heart of Gunnedah in October.

• They’ll be invited to join Katie and the community on Paint the Wall Day to help paint sections of the mural themselves.

• It’s a chance to share their story, support their friends, and speak up about the things that matter.

This is a fantastic chance for our local youth to be part of something big for themselves and for our community 💛

👉 Entries close soon!
All the details + entry form are here:

We were talking about creativity, community, and the ways art can help us say the things that sometimes feel too big for words. That chat planted the seed for a project that would give young people in our region a platform for their voices, their stories, and their hope.
