Many women over 40 carry an emotional load no one sees.
Years of caregiving. Holding relationships together. Being the strong one. Pushing through when you’re exhausted.

From the outside, you may look like you’re coping. Inside, you may feel tired, anxious, disconnected, or quietly overwhelmed.

This is not weakness. It’s the weight of years of emotional responsibility.

I’ve written a new blog on this very experience and how counselling can gently support women through this season of life.

This week, you might like to reflect on this gentle question:

Sometimes we adapt without realising it.
Noticing the difference — with kindness — can be the first step toward reconnecting with the parts of you that need attention.

I hold the view that a person’s worth isn’t defined by how much they manage, fix, or carry on their own.

Many people learn, over time, to prioritise others, ease tension, or remain agreeable to keep the peace. These patterns often develop from lived experiences, expectations, or simply doing what felt necessary in the moment.

Your voice, however, is an important part of who you are.
It’s okay to have needs, preferences, boundaries, and moments where you seek support instead of providing it.

If exploring these themes feels meaningful for you, Thyme Therapy offers a calm, supportive environment where you can do that at your own pace. 🌿

Here are gentle, realistic steps for women who feel they’ve lost touch with themselves:

🌱 1. Create micro-moments of honesty
Try asking yourself:
“What do I truly need in this moment?”
Something as small as needing quiet, a drink of water, or a 5-minute pause counts.

🌱 2. Stop apologising for existing
“I’m sorry” can become automatic. Try replacing it with:
“Thank you for waiting,”
or
“I need a minute.”

🌱 3. Let one thing be imperfect
You don’t have to hold everything. Experiment with letting something small be “good enough.”

🌱 4. Share one truth with someone safe
Even: “I’m tired,” “I’m overwhelmed,” or “I don’t have the capacity for that today.”

Small truths create space for bigger ones.

There are times in life when you may realise you’ve been adapting for so long that it’s hard to recognise what you want or need.
It can feel like you’re holding everything together, anticipating what others need, and smoothing over tension before it even appears.
If any of this resonates, it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you.
It may simply be a sign that you’ve been carrying a lot for a long time.
You deserve space to pause, breathe, and reconnect with yourself. 🌿

So many women learn to be the reliable one, the calm one, the peacemaker — and while those strengths matter, they can also make it easy to set our own needs aside without realising it.

Today, you’re invited to pause and notice:

🌿A moment this week where you adapted automatically
🌿 A time you put your needs last
🌿 A place you felt stretched thin or invisible
🌿 A moment you wished you had spoken up or taken a break

The capable one, the calm one, the one who keeps the peace, inside you are a boiling pot of emotions. For years, I became whatever was needed — the reliable worker, the supportive partner, the steady parent. I could sense tension before it arrived, always trying to smooth things over, and make everything seem “fine.”

But here’s the quiet truth many women understand:
When we adapt constantly, we can slowly disconnect from our own needs, wants, and identity.

If this feels familiar, you’re not alone — many women reach a point where they wonder:
“Where did I go?”

🌿 At Thyme Therapy, I offer space to explore that question at your pace.
