A little about me and why I felt the need to create first-Aid kits for our beloved equine friends.
I began riding at the age of five progressed through pony club, hacking, eventing and competed in B grade show jumping. Competed internationally as a member of a show team in Burbank, California.
I continued competing on return to Australia and began my passion for dressage. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be schooled by some of the masters of classical training, Nuno Olivera and Ramon Guerrero. I am still a student of Ramon.
During the years I have been faced with shocking and devastating accidents. At the young age of 12yrs I was riding home a short distance after unloading the truck on return from a show, there was a small group of us riding single file only 200m from the truck a drunk driver lost control and ran into four of us. Other than shaken and bruised the riders were ok, however the 4 horses were not. We had no First-Aid equipment or supplies and sadly we lost all 4 horses, it was extremely traumatic and I have never forgotten that day, I have always thought that if we were able to treat the horses in that instant while waiting for the vets to arrive we may have been able to save some of the horses.
Having given first response treatment to horses through some horrific paddock accidents, tendon and joint injuries through to the common hoof abscess. What I have always though is why didn't I have everything I might need in one ready to go kit, instead of rushing for bits and pieces and on the occasion realising that I don't have the necessities.
my goal is to have as many people as I can equiped with these kits on hand, out on a trail, put a kit in a car or float and be prepared, have peace of mind.... Safety first.
'How to' videos will soon be available on the website.
Do you know how to use and what to listen for when you use a stethoscope? how about taking your horses temperature or poulticing a hoof? What about immediate action required to wrap a leg wound? caught in a fence? Mares with foaling difficulties? these are jus a few scenarios.
We all want to prioritise the health and wellbeing of our horses, and I want to emphasise PLEASE BE PREPARED ✅
