🌿 Supporting regulation at home 🌿
This week we created a personalised traffic light calming system for one of our beautiful families 🤍
This system is a simple but powerful way to help children (especially our ASD kiddos) understand and communicate how they’re feeling and what to do next.
🔴 STOP (Red)
“I feel angry or overwhelmed”
→ Pause, breathe, and create space
🟡 THINK (Yellow)
“I feel worried or unsure”
→ Slow down, name the feeling, and explore what’s going on
🟢 GO / SHARE (Green)
“I feel calm and ready”
→ Talk, connect, and problem-solve safely
We paired this with visual calming activities like:
✨ deep breathing
✨ music + movement
✨ drawing/colouring
✨ sensory play (bubbles, water, textures)
✨ quiet time and connection
Everything was laminated with velcro dots so the children can interact with it, move pieces, and build familiarity through play.
We also created a wipeable colouring background; something they can come back to again and again 🤍
This isn’t just a chart- it’s a tool for emotional safety, communication, and routine within the home.
