Stress isn’t only 'in your head.'

Stress doesn’t just live in your mind - it shows up in your body through muscle tension, changes in breathing, sleep patterns, and even digestion.

Osteopathy takes a whole-body approach to health, considering how your musculoskeletal, circulatory, and nervous systems work together. Through gentle manual techniques, osteopaths aim to ease physical tension, improve movement, and support your body’s natural balance and recovery.

By easing the physical tension that can build with stress, osteopathy can support better overall wellbeing - not just recovery from injury, but from the wear and tear of everyday life.

A reminder that stress is a physical experience too - and your body deserves care for it

📬 Introducing: A Note from Bon

You may have already met Bon - our resident clinic dog at our Verrierdale location. He’s a little scruffy, a lot intuitive, and takes his job of emotional support (and napping on the job) very seriously.

From time to time, Bon has thoughts. About life, healing, snacks, and the odd goanna. We thought we’d share them. Here's his first note.

Did you catch Ramona’s recent video? 🎥☕

She shared a fascinating teaser ahead of her next Coffee Chat - and here’s the quote that really got us thinking:

“Rudolf Steiner… questioned the pump model, pointing out that the vascular network is 95,000 kilometres long, and with blood viscosity being five times greater than water, a daily pumping requirement of 8,000 litres would result in a work equivalence of lifting 50 kilograms over 1.3 kilometers every single day - all this to be done by a pump, the heart, which has an average weight of 300 grams?”

This powerful excerpt comes from Maxwell Fraval's book, Osteopathy is in the Blood, and it’s sparking some deeper questions about how we understand the heart.

💬 We’ll be unpacking this further in Ramona’s next Coffee Chat - stay tuned!

A little prelude to the next Coffee Chat with Ramona...☕

Ramona’s been diving into some fascinating reading lately - this time, exploring how we understand the heart and its role in the body. She came across a passage she couldn’t help but share ahead of the next chat.

In this short video, she reads a thought-provoking excerpt from Maxwell Fraval, raising questions about the heart as a 'pump' - and hinting at a deeper conversation to come.

📚 Stay tuned... she'll be unpacking more of this in a few weeks!

✅ Answer: False!

We talk about movement a lot — and for good reason. It’s powerful.
But more movement isn’t always the answer - sometimes, your body needs rest, regulation, or recovery first.

There are times when adding movement can help - and times when it can actually add to the stress load your system is already managing.

For example, after an acute injury or repetitive strain (RSI), the body often requires a period of rest before we introduce any movement protocols.

It’s not about 'more is better.'

It’s about the right kind of movement, at the right time, for YOUR body.

Your body is always adapting - even to things you didn’t realise were stressors.
Which of these might your body still be recovering from?
Or is it something else altogether?

The peacocks around the Verrierdale clinic are in full voice right now - colourful, confident, moving with purpose.

Spring does that to all of us in some way.
You might feel the pull to stretch more, walk more, do more - even if you’re not fanning your feathers quite so dramatically.

This season is all about reawakening. Moving how you want to move. Trusting your body’s rhythm.

And if anything feels out of step along the way - that’s where we come in.
Let’s make sure you can keep moving freely, and enjoy whatever spring brings your way 🌿

True or False Tuesday 🌟

Today's question: Does the word 'osteopathy' comes from Greek, meaning 'bone suffering'?
We’d love to know - have you ever wondered what it means?

👉 Answer: True!
'Osteon' means bone, and 'pathos' means suffering or disease. When osteopathy was first developed by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still in the 1800s, the focus was on how the structure of the body affects its overall function - and how imbalance can lead to discomfort or illness.

But don’t let the name fool you - osteopathy isn’t just about bones or pain relief.

It’s a holistic, hands-on approach that looks at the whole person: muscles, joints, circulation, nerves, and how everything works together. Many people see osteopaths not because they’re in pain, but to stay well, move better, and prevent issues before they start 🙌

Part three: Calves + Feet with the spiky ball 🦶🔥

This is the final video in our three-part series on using a spiky ball to release common areas of tension.

Today, we’re focusing on the feet and calves – two areas that work hard for you every day, whether you're walking, running, training, or standing for long hours.

In this reel, Ramona walks you through a few simple ways to use the spiky ball to release tightness and improve how your lower legs and feet feel and move.

This may help:
✔️ Ease foot and calf tightness
✔️ Improve ankle mobility
✔️ Support better movement from the ground up

Perfect for anyone who’s on their feet a lot, wears tight shoes, or just wants to give their lower legs a little love. All you need is a spiky ball and a few minutes.

Try it out and let us know how it feels! 😊
And don’t forget to save this one – your feet will thank you later.

If you come to our Verrierdale clinic, there's a good chance you’ve been greeted, sniffed, or supervised by Bon.

He’s not on the payroll, and he’s not always here - but when he is, you’ll know.
He might greet you with a tail wag, hang back and observe, or quietly lie nearby while you settle in.

Bon’s not in a rush.
He doesn’t need you to perform, explain, or be “'on.'
He comes and goes as he pleases, trusts his instincts, and somehow always finds the best spot to sit.

Around here, Bon reminds us of a few important things:
That healing doesn’t always look structured.
That presence can be quiet.
That being grounded might involve getting your paws a little dirty.

We think that’s the kind of energy worth welcoming - in a dog, and in ourselves 🐾 ✨
