Hi Everyone,
Struggling to unwind at night? With today's fast-pace lifestyle & digital overload, can make it difficult to achieve good quality sleep, but by making some small changes a peaceful night's sleep is possible. 1. Create a calming bedtime routine eg., warm bath, herbal tea or soft music or journaling. Repeating these calming activities every night helps to train the body with sleep. 2. Try cutting out the blue light from phones & screen 30 minutes before bed, as this suppresses melatonin - the hormone which help you to sleep. Pick up that favourite book instead. 3. Create a sleep friendly space - a dark, cool & quiet bedroom can make a difference. Block out light, reduce the noise & lower the temperature for a deeper sleep. 4. Go to bed & wake up at the same time every day - this consistent sleep pattern reinforces your body's natural circadian rhythm. Ada is available at the clinic to help support & calm the body to achieve a restful sleep, phone 54 838300 for assistance.

Hi Everyone,
The Gut-Brain Connection; your brain talks to your gut & your gut talks back. The feeling in your gut can influence your decision making, as in "going with your gut". The brain communicates with all of your body through nerves (the nervous system). More information passes between the brain & gut than any other body system. There are more nerve cells in the gut than anywhere else in the body outside of the brain. Our brain & digestive system have evolved together to help us survive. What we eat is crucial to our overall health & has varied a lot throughout history, depending on what was available. Emotion can make physical sensations in the gut more intense - intense physical sensations can also raise stress levels & the emotional response.

Hi Everyone,
Heart disease in Australia kills three times as many women as breast cancer. Traditionally men were more likely to suffer heart attacks & strokes, but increased stress factors for women mean they are now at a greater risk of heart attack & disease. The main risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, being overweight & smoking. High blood pressure & high cholesterol have no symptoms but can be checked with simple tests & preventatives measures can be done for all four factors. Ada is available at the clinic to help address any issues or concerns - phone 54838300 for an appointment.

Hi Everyone,
With the season of colds & flu's upon us, there are a couple of key ingredients to add to your daily diet to help the body provide a healthy immune system - zinc & Vitamin C. Incorporate zinc-rich foods eg., meat, shellfish, legumes, nuts, seeds, dairy, eggs & whole grains into the daily diet. Also Vitamin C rich foods such as- berries, citrus fruits, kiwifruit, blackcurrants, tomatoes, broccoli, sprouts & capsicum. For an acute cold/flu, a therapeutic dose of zinc & Vitamin C may be needed. Ada is on hand at the clinic to assist the family on making it through the cold/flu season, phone 54 838300.

Hi Everyone,
Healthy bones are dense & strong, helping to support your body as you move around. As we age, our bones naturally become weaker & less dense, sometimes the bones can become fragile & may get damaged or even break from a small injury or a minor fall. The foods we eat, medicines & medical conditions can all influence the health of our bones. Keep the bones healthy by ensuring you get enough Vitamin D, calcium & exercising regularly with weight-bearing activities, quit smoking & drink alcohol in moderation. As we age, the bones gradually decrease in strength & density from your 30's onwards & continuously renew themselves by breaking down & rebuilding bone tissue throughout our life. If you have concerns about maintaining bone strength & health, Ada is available at the clinic, phone 54 838300.

Hi Everyone,
It is true that we are mentally fitter when our body is healthy. It has been proven that students who spend a third of their weekly school timetable in a physical education program better academically than those who get no physical education. Older people who exercise regularly say that they are more motivated, have more energy, enthusiasm & feel mentally sharper as a result of their physical fitness. If you are unable to manage a fitness routine why not try some weekend walks through your local parks or try to include some incidental exercise into your day by taking the stairs whenever possible, walking to the shops/school & parking the car far away & walking - it all helps

Hi Everyone,
Physical activity, to be taken regularly-not seriously! Physical activity makes you feel better & increases your feelings of well-being. This helps with weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, stress, back pain & arthritis. Put movement into your day & make the activity a habit. Some ways to add to your habit, can be by parking the car further away & walk some of the distance. Turn off the TV & enjoy the outdoors or even cool off with a swim in the summer. You don't have to change your routine too much & can get the same health benefits when you take your activity in 10 minute chunks, instead of 20-30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise on most days of the week Physical activity is a good way to spend time with other people, keeping you social & gaining support from friends & family. Some activity is better than none & more is better than a little.
