Kambarang (October - November)
We’re entering Kambarang, the Noongar season in Western Australia. Many things are undergoing transformation with the warm change in the weather. During this time the Balgas (grass trees) will continue to flower, especially if they’ve been burnt in the past year or closely shaved. We can look at this as a metaphor for our own health. We are also a part of this natural cycle. After going through a period of sleepiness and darkness, we begin to awaken, search for the sun and get moving out in the outdoors, having had a season of restoration and inward healing.
This is a great time to work on your solar callus (your body’s healthy relationship with the sun and resistance to burn). While the sun continues to rise slightly earlier & there are less clouds and cold fronts to deter you from being outdoors. The cleansing nature of an early morning dip in the ocean and lighter meals help you transition into the new season. Reconnecting with friends and community is easier with the longer days ahead.
We also suggest finding time to see the Moojar, or Australian Christmas Tree (Nuytsia floribunda). The beautiful bright orange-yellow flowers serve to signal the heat is on its way.
At Reconnect we respectfully acknowledge the Whadjuk Noongar people, original custodians of this beautiful and sacred land (boodja) on which we meet and gather.
