Did you know that regular exercise, especially aerobic movement, can significantly improve a child’s focus, attention span, and executive functioning? These skills play a key role in classroom learning, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour at school.

Exercise increases blood flow to the brain and stimulates the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a powerful protein that supports brain cell growth in areas linked to memory, learning, and attention.

At ECM, our Exercise Physiology programs are designed to support both physical health and cognitive development, helping children move better, learn better, and feel more confident in their everyday environments.

Our Holyoake Drumbeat group program is an evidence-based program designed to build social understanding, connection and emotional regulation through fun, team drumming experiences. Combining elements of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) with engaging, rhythm-based activities, this program is ideal for children who may find traditional “talk-based” therapies challenging. Recent neurological research highlights the powerful impact of rhythm on brain systems linked to anxiety and emotional regulation, making learning both effective and enjoyable.

Led by Betty, our Social Worker and Behavioural Therapist, this program offers a supportive and interactive environment where children can develop skills, confidence and meaningful connections.

Have you noticed your child tripping or falling more often than expected?

Frequent tripping, falling, or avoiding active play can sometimes be signs that a child needs extra support with balance, coordination, or motor planning. These challenges can affect confidence, participation in sport, and everyday activities at home and school.

At ECM, our Paediatric Physiotherapy services focus on helping children:
→ Improve balance and coordination
→ Build strength and body awareness
→ Develop safe movement skills
→ Gain confidence in play, sport, and daily routines

Through fun, age-appropriate activities, we support children to move with greater ease and independence, so they can enjoy being active without fear or frustration.

If you have concerns about your child’s movement or development, our team is here to help, offering home, community, school and clinic supports.
